Democracy Monument protesters declare strengthened rally Friday

BANGKOK, Nov 14 – Former Democrat MP Suthep Thaugsuban announced last night that the anti-government demonstration on Ratchadamnoen Avenue will be elevated to a higher level on Friday.

He called on protesters to meet at 6pm Friday to listen to tougher measures for dealing with the Shinawatra family.

The former Surat Thani MP said some of the civil disobedience measures were effective, citing a whistle-blowing protest against a Cabinet member at a Bangkok hotel yesterday.

At a separate rally site on Makkhawan Rangsan Bridge, Nitithorn Lamlua, advisor to the Network of Students and People for Thailand’s Reform (NSPTR), announced that his group will march to the Silom business centre today to protest against the government’s amendment of Section 190 of the Constitution and call on the government to urgently help Veera Somkwamkid who was arrested in Cambodia and imprisoned in the neighbouring country.

The group vowed to continue fighting until the government steps down.

Meanwhile, the Constitution Court yesterday rejected a former senator’s petition against Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and ex-deputy premier Suthep Thaugsuban for their harsh action at an anti-government demonstration in Bangkok.

Ruengkrai Leekitwattana charged the pair with violating the Constitution for an announcement before a mass rally on Ratchadamnoen Avenue to set up a people’s tribunal.

He asked the court to dissolve the Democrat Party and revoke Mr Abhisit’s and Mr Suthep’s rights to vote.

The Constitution Court unanimously ruled out Mr Rueangkrai’s lawsuit, reasoning that their political demonstrations were organised peacefully in accord with the guidelines of the Constitution. (MCOT online news)

Red Shirts holding 3-day mass rally next week
By English News

BANGKOK, Nov 14 – Red Shirt activists will hold a three-day rally in suburban Bangkok, starting Monday, in a prelude to the Constitution Court’s judgement on the charter amendment.

Jatuporn Prompan, a leader of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), claimed that he was tipped off on the court’s verdict, scheduled for next Thursday, concerning a charter review which calls for the election of all senators, and not with some appointed as stipulated in the present Constitution.

A bill to revise the charter was recently passed by Parliament, prompting the Democrat Party to petition the Constitution Court, charging that the election of all senators breached Section 68 of the charter.

If the court rules on Thursday that the charter amendment is against the Constitution, 312 MPs and senators who voted for the bill will immediately lose their parliamentary seats and political parties in the ruling bloc will be dissolved, said Mr Jatuporn.

He said that the Democrat Party’s announcement of civil disobedience has brought about chaos in the country, calling on the opposition to stop its protests now that the amnesty bill was rejected as demanded.

He said the UDD will organise a mass rally at Muang Thong Thani in Bangkok's suburb of Nonthaburi November 18-20 to closely follow the Constitution Court’s verdict. (MCOT online news)

"He said that the Democrat Party’s announcement of civil disobedience has brought about chaos in the country, calling on the opposition to stop its protests now that the amnesty bill was rejected as demanded."

"Suspended" is what the PM says about the bill, but perhaps you probably know better than her. "Rejection" is what you will feel when your efforts fail to bring your Master home.

"Chaos" Well where were you four years ago?

Hmmmm Jatuporn is claiming he was tipped of about the verdict? Does he mean the timing of the announcement or the verdict itself? Not that it matters since he is claiming that someone leaked informtion to him that could affect national security and the security of the judges them selves. He should be brought in by the DSI and questioned.

He wasn't tipped off. More likely he was told to F off when he inquired.

These comment are how Jatuporn rallies his supporters by making a spurious claim that can neither be proven or dis proven but he still claims he is in the know and they need to follow him. Almost like a shaman; which in rural Thailand where superstitions are part of tradition may not be a daft as it sounds?

If this guy in any way is represantive for the alternative to the present government, Lord have mercy on Thailand!!

In a match between those two morons:

There will be no winners, only losers: The people of Thailand!sad.png

If this government is ousted it is a win for the people of Thailand.

As it is the worst government I have ever seen the chances are good that the next one will be better as long as it isn't from Thaksin.

Abhisit slams UDD

BANGKOK: -- Opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva today slammed the red-shirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) over its call for pro-government rally of red-shirt people at Muang Thong Thani on during November 18-20, saying it might lead to confrontation of two rival groups.

Speaking to Bluesky Channel today, Abhisit said he strongly believed the red-shirt rally during November 18-20 risked confrontation of rival protest groups as now there are ill-intention people trying to incite unrest by bringing government supporters to confront protesters with intent to create turmoil in the country.

The Democrat party leader also said that although the government has withdrawn six amnesty bills from Parliament but he was confident that this was not the sincere intent of the government as it still has determination to bring the ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra back to the country.

He said that the current anti-government protest at the Democracy Monument was constitutional as it is peaceful without any sign of violence.

On the Preah Vihear temple ruling by the International Court of Justice, he said that he still saw the ruling a disadvantage to the country, and called on the Yingluck government to hold dialogues with Cambodia openly and allow public participation.

Poor Suthep is going to take it like a soldier(dry) on the 12th December. Either that or this man of immense ethics and good will, will quietly disappear a couple of days before when back room deals are reached.

Not that it has anything to do with this topic ... but why would you think that a man charged under the wrong criminal code has ANYTHING to worry about?

No, I actually have no idea what your point is. Suthep no longer has parliamentary immunity and is not in jail, has not been taken in and posted bail .... nothing.

You can always trust Jatuporn to have something intelligent to say. My personal favourite was when he blamed the flooding on the Democrats, classic.

It has been said that one man's freedom fighter is another man's rebel. But for me personally I believe

these people at the rally are true patriots. So many years here , and I generally see the apathy

of the Thai people towards politics. And no, red shirts being paid to attend rallies does not fall

under the heading of political awareness.... :-) So I salute the increased understanding of the

common people towards what is really happening here, and I truly wish them the best of luck.

The future of Thailand depends upon them.

U are right, the future of Thailand rests with the people of Thailand, what they decide will be the fate of the country, one hopes they make the right choice, there's no second chance.

Have to say that I do not blame them for keeping it up...

It is a little bit disturbing that nearly 100% of the senators ONLY rejected the bill... (as instructed?)

None of them proposed to revert to original and to approve it: would have solved the problem for both sides already....

100% of senators agreed to reject it and make it available again in 180 days....

Seems even too obvious for any fan of conspiracy theories to get excited... crying.gif
