Co-working / desk space in Phuket?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I've spent a little bit of Thailand in the past and was recently in Phuket for 6 weeks staying in Chalong and training at the Muay Thai camps there. I really enjoyed life on the island and plan to come back for a longer stint from January - 3-5 months. I work for myself as a remote freelancer and have traveled a lot in the last few years working as I go. Where this is most satisfying and productive is when there's somewhere away from where I'm living that I can set up and work. Really nice coffee shops can work, but much better is a proper co-working space or office where I can rent a desk a few days a week.

Does anybody know if anything like this exists in Phuket? If it doesn't, has anyone got any suggestions for coffee shops or other spots that might provide a decent spot to work for a few hours a day?

A final question would be about places to live where I might get a decent modern apartment/condo with a bit more space - so perhaps I could have a 2nd room and make a little office. My budget isn't huge 20-25k a month.

Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

Cheers,

Luke

Just behind Phuket Top Team you can rent a 2 bedroom house for about 10-12000 baht a month. I was looking there for a friend that wants to move from Kamala 3 weeks ago. There was at least 5 houses for rent there with 2 bedrooms and 2 toilets, small garden. car port, aircon. They arent the newest but they are OK. You would have to fork out a bit for furniture though.

I would suggest taking a pic of the house with number and get a Thai to ring up or otherwise you will be paying double the normal price.

Awesome, thanks IrishIvan - that sounds really promising. At 10-12,000 a month I could afford to go and buy a bit of furniture.

Luke, If you have a budget of 25,000 a month why don't you rent a serviced apartment. Why go to all the hassle of renting a house and having to furnish it. How much is a Fridge, TV, sofa's, bed, cooking equipment going to cost you. All this stuff isn't cheap. To much hassle if you are only going to stay 6 months. You have got to buy all this gear. You then have to get all the gear to your house. Then what you going to do with it at the end of your stay. Also look it from a security point of view. You will be working from home so you will have computer equipment. What happens if you go out at night, how secure is the house. You know with a decent serviced apartment you wont get robbed when you are out and about. Also serviced apartments have good Wifi service. One thing less to think about. If your rent a house you will surely have to get your own internet feed which is a hassle you don't need. The one's I have looked at all have enough room for a small work area as well. If you want a few links to serviced apartments give me a shout and I will sort them out for you. I remember when I was asking for info on serviced apartments, you either don't get any replies or its rent a motorbike when you get here and find them yourself. I think its always good to have a few options before you arrive.

Thanks CFC - that's very solid advice. I was definitely thinking that something like you're suggesting would be my best bet. Either serviced apartment or furnished condo and I'd be really appreciative of any links you might have. Like you say, it's always best to have a good idea of where the land lies even if I do end up waiting and riding around on a bike for a few days.

Thanks again! :)

Forgot to add. Also you get the apartment cleaned twice a week(with fresh towels) another hassle you don't have to worry about.

I think its once you have 5 posts I can send you a PM. I don't think the moderators would like loads of links to serviced apartments posted.

Ah OK.... think I must be nearly on 5 now. I just tried PM'ing you myself, hopefully that gets through.

A member can send PMs as soon as registered. No posts are required. And yes, best send serviced apartment details by PM.
