But then I'm sure you will be able to supply a reason why they should be denied a place in government, even if the electorate give them a majority and a mandate, you call it checks and balances don't you? smedly
if you watched their dedicated TV propaganda channel today the camera was never pointed at the crowd or lack there of, maybe Skype was offline also as TS never bothered to address the ............. maybe just maybe the thai people have realised the D's in UDD are the wrong way round, they just may have wakened up I don't see how PTP can survive this debacle, their attempt at communism has failed - I'll bet Tarit and co have booked their tickets, don't slam the door on the way out lol be interesting to see if the DEMs get a good (and they would need to be good)financial team in to look at the books and expose exactly what went on the last two years - my guess is there are billions of baht unaccounted for and international arrest warrants will be issued - thieving barstuards The greatest heist in history is about to be uncovered The genuine Thai people don't realise they've just been financially raped and that is very very sad indeed Edited November 20, 2013 by smedly
whybother
The whole idea of merging the administrative and legislative branches was undemocratic and, if you guys are supposed to represent democracy, then you've just won - no need to look as defeated as you look in the OP photo (except Jatuporn, who is wearing his fake political smile). You can go home now and start looking for real jobs. Unless of course, "fighting for democracy" was just a ploy all along. Isn't "Administrative" the government and the ministries, and "Legislative" *both* houses of parliament? Sent from my HTC One using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app "once that bill was scrapped" If only ! The faux-PM has desribed it as being suspended, not scrapped, that's part of the problem. But the people voted for the current charter so where is the justification for changing it? The constitution obviously needs to be changed. "The people voted for it" in a low turn out referendum that in the lead up to it, it was illegal to criticize it. They were handed a document (not the worst Thailand has ever seen an not too radically different from the 1997 "people's constitution" and told accept this or have no voice in what is put in place. It needs major revisions including dealing with public figures involved in graft/corruption. It needs major revisions in making sure that the separation of powers between Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of government stay balanced. It needs major changes giving strength to the checks and balances required for democracy. It needs major changes in establishing constitutionally protected free speech that will overrule some organic laws regarding defamation. It needs major changes in establishing human rights protections. Let's hope that we see something more in line with promoting democracy and human rights next time. Just to add, IMO the revised Constitution must also be endorsed by the people, in a national referendum. When even the junta-appointed interim-government put the revised-Constitution to such a vote, it established a very important principle. Major changes must satisfy that same level of democratic endorsement from the electorate.
Robby nz
I very much doubt that Thaksin paid for any of the red rallies this time. Why should he when his party has control of the public purse? All the funding would have come from Govt (tax payer) through various back doors. And like the rice, the funding has now stopped so they all have to go back home. Wonder if they were given return tickets or if they have to pay their own way home ? Sent from my HTC One using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app Erm... They called it off because of the piss poor turnout, nothing more and nothing less. They were reduced to a couple of hundred supporters. They declared to escalate the red shirt protests onto the street. There probably would have been enough to post two at every bus stop on Sukumvit. The Dem rally SHOULD continue, I hope they expand it, I really do. This government needs to go. Nothing to do with the amnesty bill. That was the starting point, but the underlying reason for the demos is to oust the government. Keep up the good fight my friends. The reds are all but dead. Uhm... I guess that the reports of TV members' favorite source of information did their best to play down the turn out of the reds, while promoting Suthep's little show as much as they can. The other English news source surprisingly reported 60.000 people already joining and many more arriving at press time the day before the verdict. Not bad at all. I just think the reds have been acting very wise by not prolonging the rally. Soon the Dems will have to stop too. Most people don't even listen to Suthep anymore because he does not have a clear message of what to fight for. Apart toppling elected government, of course (read today's news)(the other one). But the other English newspaper mentioned quite big numbers and a picture of the full stadium (same article). So there might well have been much more than 60.000 + the ones still arriving at press time Never believe what the biased newspapers tell you! Sent from my HTC One using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app Actually, I said "the other paper" referring to the Bangkok Post. They said *after the fact* that 30,000 were there. I did a search for photos of the rally at the stadium, and none of the photos showed a full stadium.
Mosha
The whole idea of merging the administrative and legislative branches was undemocratic and, if you guys are supposed to represent democracy, then you've just won - no need to look as defeated as you look in the OP photo (except Jatuporn, who is wearing his fake political smile). You can go home now and start looking for real jobs. Unless of course, "fighting for democracy" was just a ploy all along. I thought Jatuporn was trying to squeeze one off, or fart.
