Juggling Two Passports

Featured Replies

At the end of December I will terminate my employment with a Thailand registered Company.

Therefore my Work Permit & Non- B Visa will be cancelled.

I wish to remain in Thailand, but I want to give myself 6 months break before I commit to any new employment.

As a consequence of my current job I have 2 passports (UK Passport Holder) due to my frequent travels out of Thailand to the rest of Asia and multiple Visa requirements.

Second Passport I have not used for entry into Thailand at all as yet.

My thinking is that I can bounce between both Passports as and when the current Tourist Visa expires over this 6 month period?

I appreciate that first I need to leave Thailand when my existing Non B is terminated and then return with a Tourist Visa.

So, I can apply for a Tourist Visa (60 days) extend that by 30 days. Depart prior to first visa expiring and return using the other Passport and repeat the process of 60 + 30 days? That give me 6 months.

Would my assumption be correct?

If yes, any expected pitfalls to be aware of?

why not just get a double or triple entry tourist visa?

You can go to Vientiane in Laos and apply for a double entry tourist visa, giving you two entries of 60 days and both can be extended by 30 days.

No need to use two different passport, so I advise not to do so. It only leads to questions that are not needed when they pick up on it.

Why get two single entry visas when you can get a 2 entry in Vientiane Laos. Also there would be no problem getting two single entry visas in the same passport.

Unless flying out and back changing passports can be difficult. It is virtually impossible at a border crossing.

Ok Gents, thanks for the Double/Triple entry option via Vientiane. Sounds like a plan.

If I get multiple entry Visa's in one shot, what will be the 'use by' dates for each entry?

What I mean is, if I obtain 2 x single entry, would the second single entry be valid to use after 90 days?

In Laos it would have a valditiy of 3 months from date of issuance. So you have to hurry, but could use the second entry after the first 90 days are up. A triple entry would not make sense becasue of the validity.

@Mario2008: OK great thats clear, Thanks

Final question is: Do i have to leave Thailand to initiate the second single entry Visa once the first 90 days (60 + 30) is up?

Yes you have to leave the country.

Ok Gents,

Much obliged for your input, seems pretty straight forward.

During that 6 months I will reside in Maha Sarakham, so to pop over to Vientiane will be fairly convenient.

Cancellation of a work permit does not cancel your visa. Switching passports is no problem, but, as mentioned above, why going for it if not neccessary. For how long is your business visa valid, does it still cover your six month?

He does not have a visa he has an extension of stay. A extension of stay ends on the day the job ends.

There is no law against using different passports to enter Thailand but no advantage in your case, so why cause possible confusion. I have heard of cases in India where Immigration decided that people travelling with two passports needed an Indian visa in both of them.
