How And Why ?

Why do some of my postings get deleted and some of my replies get edited ?

As far as I know I havvent said anything that would upset anyone, I'm not rude or impolite in here

Who does it and WHY ?

I can appreciate if a topic has been repeated or a subject is not deemed suitable, but some postings and topics I have been following have JUST GONE, disappeared, never to see daylight or dusk again

Anyone any idea who does it and why ?

I wanted a forensic moderator LOL

Gone are the days when the pen was mightier than the sword cos now it's a stroke and you're out.

I know some topics can be sensitive and some are unallowed to be discussed for either security, cultural or possible liebelous claims (I really do have a 6 year old who spells better than me).

Some topics need to be deleted they just end up running right off track and abusing any and all also some of the crime replies, well Dixon of Dock Green would laugh at some of the comments where others have already decided who was right, who was wrong, who was gay and so on and so on.

This is just my little take on it again LOL. The mods will answer I'm SURE.

Oh! well back to the weekends forensic cases. Some meaty news coming soon.

Make it a great day

The trouble is, more often than not they don't answer.

Except on one occasion when my post was not only deleted, but I was banned as well, I am not aware of any of my posts being edited or deleted.

However, I have seen this complaint frequently from other members.

Topics are in the habit of being deleted for no apparent reason one thread is allowed to go off topic for pages and pages, and another is shut down as soon as it strays slightly). I have personally asked for explanations on why threads have been closed on several occasions and have never recieved a repsonse.

At the risk of alienating our revered establishment, I would venture to suggest that some of the moderators' snap decisions are arbitary at best, and would not stand the light of close scrutiny - hence no response when we query their actions.

As we're not supposed to discuss such matters, I guess this post will be deleted. :o

name the posts and I'll look into it for you

I assume that offer was diected at the OP, but I'll jump in anyway.

The original Steven Parkinson thread was closed (I'm not talking about being moved to the Press Clippings), for no apparent reason. It was then re-opened by someone posting a news update and has been going ever since, even though it has largely become a Pattay Bashing thread.

Any reason for the original closure? :o

well lets keep to the forum rules here, so we dont discuss modding etc, so if you can PM me a link to the original post I'll find out.

If you have a problem in the future with posts dissapearing PM the mods who lead the forum or an admin.

I think the original was closed as there was another thread already running on it in a different section. I often see threads closed for that reason.

It is also possible that someone posted a highly controversial reply (i.e. a flame laden post) and it was decided to close/remove the thread to prevent a flame war. Sometimes the thread is closed, sometimes it is deleted altogether (which would help prevent another thread starting up regarding what was being said in the original thread).

I think it may also have to do with the nature of the discussion. If it is something that relates primarily to a particular area (say Pattaya), then a similar thread in the General Topics area may be closed and visa-versa.

When in doubt, PM a mod about it. They are usually pretty good about answering things like this. Sometimes they will even PM you to let you know why something was deleted (like the time I posted the amended lyrics to a rather "bawdy" old Navy song, which was considered a little to risque for the general membership to view :o ) My bad on that one. One of the hazards of having 4+ windows open at the same time, sometimes you forget which forum you are posting in !

The one thing I hate is when I draft up a reply to a post, and then get an error message, only to find out the thread was closed/deleted while I was composing my memorial reply :D

Lets see if it happens this time as well.....

(guess not !)

There wasn't another thread running at the time the first Steve Parkinson thread was closed. It was the second thread (which opened later) that was transferred from the Pattaya Forum to Press clippings.

There was nothing controversial or inflamatory going on. The flaming and Pattaya bashing all started later on the thread that is still open.

There was absolutely no obvious reason why the thread was closed, which is why I asked the question. If it had been obvious, I wouldn't have bothered to ask. I suspect it was a rash, illogical decision.

If mods won't respond on the forum as to reasons threads are closed (which would be sensible so that we would all know the reason for future reference) how come Lopburi3 gave a reason on the thread for closing a topic on the buying of wholesale Nikes the other day?

Seems to be a certain inconsistency here :o
