PHUKET: -- At 8 am yesterday (November 24), Pol. Maj. Weeraphong Raktig, an inquiry officer from Kathu police, received a report from Mr Pathanaphong Sombat, 36, a tuk-tuk driver, that a body was floating in a Patong pond.

After Mr Sombat had finished his shift for the day, he had seen the body floating in a body of water behind Patong municipal office.

Kathu police, along with scientific crime detection officers, rushed to the scene, and found the body of a man aged around 20-35 years old, 160 cm tall, with a crew cut.

The body was floating in the water with his face down, and covered with blood. He was wearing black jeans. Close to the pool, were found two bags, a brown T-shirt and some blood.

The body was retrieved from the pool by Phuket Kusoldharm Foundation staff. Scientific crime detection officers then checked his body and found that his neck was slashed by a sharp weapon.

The windpipe was cut and he also had about 17 severe wounds under the left arm and on his back. It seemed likely he had been attacked by more than one individual. Officers did not find any weapons in the area.

Pol. Col. Jeerapat Phochanapan, the superintendent of Kathu police, called a meeting to discuss the discovery, announcing that the man was likely killed in a different location, and his body had then been dumped in the pool.

Police officers have been ordered to search in a variety of places, including Burmese workers’ camps, hotels and restaurants, to see if someone is missing.

The body was taken to Patong hospital.

PHUKET: -- Police are looking to identify a man whose body was found in a lagoon behind the Patong Municipality offices early yesterday morning.

The man’s throat had been slashed and his torso had been stabbed at least 17 times, reported officers at the scene (map here).

“The body was found at 8am by local tuk-tuk driver Pattanapong Sombat, 36,” Maj Weerapong Raktito of the Patong Police told the Phuket Gazette.

“He spotted the body when he parked his vehicle by the pond after work,” he added.

The victim was 20 to 35 years old, about 160cm tall and had dark skin and dark features, Maj Weerapong said.

“He also had multiple stab wounds in his chest and back, and deep lacerations under his right arm,” Maj Weerapong added.

By the banks of the pond, officers found two empty rice sacks and a blood-soaked t-shirt.

“The man may have been murdered elsewhere and his body dumped in the pond,” Patong Police Superintendent Chiraphat Pochanaphan told the Gazette.

Col Chiraphat ordered police to launch a widespread effort to identify the man.

“I want you to check every construction camp and hotel in the area to see if any persons are missing,” he told his officers.

“If any people believe they know the identity of the victim, please contact the Patong Police at 076-342720,” Col Chiraphat said.

The body is being kept at the Patong Hospital morgue, where people may come forward and identify it, he added.

Spiked drink........... seems to be the standard excuse for any misadventure here in LOS

RIP to the guy.

BTW, I would not call that piece of water a "pond"... But reading this was in Patong, it probably is a Patong "pond", not to be confused with the other ponds of this world.

Happy happy Phuket bah.gif

Since when Maigret?? The next thing that you might put forward is that swimming in a stagnant pool in a stinking dump is the most common reason for ones demise bah.gif

Its called satire my good man

RIP. Too bad wasn't a farang. Would have been another clever suicide and they could have been finished with investigation in time for lunch.

IS THIS PKT ??? IS THIS PATONG ???

How much shame.

Turist are welcome with very nice circumstances.

If this victim is farang, was suicide, not queston at all.

Are you serious, Loles? Seventeen stab wounds and throat cut.

Please try to keep it sensible.

Seems quite possible. Stab yourself rapidly 17 times, slit your throat from ear to ear and then jump into the pond....

That sounds like suicide to me whistling.gif

Get the feeling he may have got someone, just a "Tad Upset."
