Education visa in Hat Yai?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I want to study Thai language and get an education visa in Hat Yai. Is there anywhere I can do this? Or if not, wheres the nearest place?

Thank you.

I dont think its possible, I did 4 hours a day in Bangkok for 4 months, until i could learn to read and write, then enjoyed the casual drop-in sessions at AUA, BKK to expand my vocab. Then hit a wall when i moved to Hat Yai, as there are no language schools here ( if you truly want to learn Thai ). If you just seek the Ed-Visa, then your out of luck, there are no schools, and none of the universities run any PT courses for native speakers.

I guess Phuket or Samui would be your closest option.

If you aim is to learn Thai, then HY is quite a good place, with the lack of English spoken by the locals, you cant help but learn more Thai just to get through your day, even though you will pick up the local dialect/slang and speak at extreme speeds.

Yup. I hit the exact same wall in Hat Yai. Better for me as I live in Penang, 4 hours drive away. But most schools in Hat Yai are geared towards Thais learning English, Mandarin or Bahasa Malay. I found one or two schools that could fix up a teacher for maybe 1 hour a day 4-5 times per week but for me that was not enough to make staying there worth the time / cost. I ended up going to Phuket for 4 months, OK but it's very touristy of course and with prices to match. That said, the prices for private lessons in Patong were the same as I was being quoted in Hat Yai.

How old are you?

It's possible. 50% of Hat Yai people dont speak "southern accent", they speak normal Bangkok accent where it's easy to hear and speak.

If you are University level it's quite easy to get a visa. The Prince of Songkla University have many English speaking teachers and oversea-graduated lecturers who could speak ok-English.
