Last night I paid for 7 nights in a hotel on Soi Lengkee. I checked in and all seemed fine. Took a shower and noticed the water was coming out fine then very slow intermittently. I finished up and took a nap. It had been a long day. Around 730 PM I got up and noticed there was no water at all. I went downstairs and the "owner" was there. She went around and verified the water wasn't working. She made some calls and said she would take care of it. Fine. I went out for the evening. I came back around 1 am and while the water was working, the bathroom smelled like a sewer. I sent her a text message and said two problems in one day is enough. I will check out tomorrow. She texted back saying she could give me another room. I texted back no, two problems in one day is enough.

In the morning she was no where to be seen, even though she lives in the building. We exchanged some texts and she said OK to me checking out and getting a refund for the remaining 6 days but said she now go to Bangkok. I asked several times when do I get my money back. I had already returned the key at 0930 am. She stopped answering the texts and phone calls.

So, do I call the Tourist Police? 1155 and start pressing the issue?

Weekly rate was better and I have stayed on this Soi just recently and it is a decent location. Looks like I am going to have a problem with this hotel.

But that could be a problem in high season, not so funny to hear that all rooms are booked when you want to pay for one more day.

Wonder where her water supplier picked up his water...one of the local ditches most likely as it smelled up the room like a sewer. How's your skin...any burning or rashes yet? Is your typhoid immunization up to date?

This happens even in condos and houses often. You should have given it another day. Its not the Hotels fault really

Personally i would consider problems like this the norm unless paying big bucks.By normal standards she offered a good compromise. Not saying its right just the way things are here in my experience.

You may well find its a civil matter not criminal in which case police will not bother.

You are spot on, people getting cheapest rooms but demanding and expecting 5 start facility and service?

Cheap hotels are cheap for a reason.

OP will not get his money back and no police or courts will give him back his money.

Owner was very reasonable, OP not satisfied because it does not meet his number of problems limitationblink.png , as i said before, OP can check into 5 star hotel where these problems do not arise and if do, it gets sorted on the spot.

If i had to guess, water problem was the pump and the owner filled the tanks with one of those trucks.

Tomorrow or day after, pump will be replaced and smell should be gone shortly

Don't name and shame her, the mods will delete it very quickly.

On the other hand web booking sites accept reviws.

But soi LK Metro...sounds like one of the randy guesthouses there or rooms above a bar and I would highly doubt they are listed on the major hotel booking sites...unless they accept negative star ratings.

At what minimum hotel star level must one book to expect water service in the room?

At a level of common sense.rolleyes.gif

Cheap places or anything under 3 star does not have engineers working on site,so if anything breaks it is an out call.

3 stars will have engineers but very few will have them working late evenings or nights or weekends.

If something breaks on Saturday night, it will remain broken, because no one to call out at night or on Sunday.

They either do not work, too drunk or phones switched off.

And when one books any hotel, especially cheap place, one is really in no position to demand or complain that the owner is not available for them on Sunday

There are bargains, but in my opinion, one needs to be reasonable with demands and expectations.

That depends on how much you're willing to spend.

You definitely pay for what you get.

Minimum of 5000 baht per night in Pattaya will see an increased quality of accommodation and service. Though 7000 about right.

Never had any problem at the Siam Bayshore.

The only problem now is having to go via second rd so as to avoid the human zoo that is now WS.

Problems can happen in any hotel, but naturally when you pay premium prices you get premium service and do expect for problem to be fixed pretty fast.

When you go budget, you can get nice clean, well furnished room, but without the premium price, you also miss out on premium service, such as engineers on site, bell boys, room service, security guards

Though complaining about owner not being there on Sunday is still beyond me. OP must think he is the it for his 500-600 bahtfacepalm.gif

I only book 2 days in advance the most. First night to get some sleep when arriving late. The second day to scout around for a better room if the first didn't work out. Good luck.

To complete my story, it was NOT a 500 baht room. The Tourist Police were fantastic. They came right over. I explained the situation. I wrote everything down on his little case notebook. They took a picture. Finally after 7 hours of not returning my calls, the "owner" called when the police came. Funny how that happens. The police got on the phone with her. I got my money for the 6 days I did not stay there today.

As for paying a week in advance, yes I did, but it was NOT at any discount. She was going to raise the rate the week after. As for being offered another room, that was not a viable solution. The only other rooms available were facing the street noise. It is not one of the cheap places above a beer bar. It was not a Sunday, it was a Saturday.

To all those that posted negative slings, exaggerations, assumptions, well, so be it. I thought some of those posts were ridiculous. I did not expect, engineers, bell boys, etc. as one poster wrote. I fail to see the need for being ludicrous. I did not expect 5 star service. I simply expected what I paid for. When the room got fouled up, the deal was over. The main purpose of my post was to ask about the Tourist Police. Well, it turned out great so I thought I would pass on the information. 1155 worked. The lead office that came over understood english well, spoke it better than I do Thai.

Imagine that, owner did not return YOUR calls on Sunday after all you are a VIP customer who should be served 24/7 including the weekend and naturally by the owner.

So glad you got a refund, lets hope the next place, owner is there to service you 24/7 and nothing else happens.

Probably works out in most cases.

But what happens if you really like the place, but it's booked solid on the 3rd night? That's happened to me occasionally- though not in Thailand.

Not fun looking for a room in high season right in the middle of a holiday.
