Customs Department goes electronic

BANGKOK: -- The Customs Department yesterday introduced an electronic document-issuing system for import and export procedures to facilitate trade by saving time and cutting costs by 50 per cent.

Department director-general Sathit Limpingpan said the system would also assist international traders with a digital signature on electronic documents, using TOT Pcl's so-called TOT CA system.

The new paperless system will be officially launched this month. This will provide exporters and importers with a checkable and transparent system.

Companies using the system will be charged a Bt500 service fee, which is 50-per-cent lower than the current manual system. In addition, it will take only 30 minutes to move goods out of the port compared with the current one day.

Some old stories, instead of processing the documents electronically, some customs staff’s mending the PC is busily pulling off the plug to make more money. Freight forwarders always called the customs handling counter first class service.
