Nat Fyfe’s appeal has been dismissed, meaning the star midfielder’s two-game ban will stand.

Fyfe fronted the AFL Appeals Board via video link to Melbourne on Thursday evening.

His representation Stuart Morris QC argued that the Tribunal made an error of law on Tuesday.

Morris said the jury was directed to make the finding Fyfe was guilty, not left to decide that itself.

He added the decision was inconsistent on the evidence and wrong in law.

“For the judge to mandate an outcome it had to be the only possible outcome,” Morris said.

But after seven minutes of deliberation the Appeals Board found there had been no error of law and dismissed Fyfe’s case.

He will miss matches against Brisbane and Port Adelaide.

That is sensational chooka.

Who is the guy on the mark?

He almost mooned himlaugh.png

Just thought I would throw in a little comic relief.

The E.J Whitten legends game all for charity.

The guy on the mark? my 1st thoughts were what is Zach the Hack Dawson doing in this game.

I was taking his tips until he started giving me a bum steer.

The last few weeks Chimpy just sits in his corner on the couch, wrapped in the St Kilda scarf you gave him, wearing the Black and gold party pie box as his hat and scratching those large pair the two of you enjoy so much.

He looks forlornly at the blank TV screen, waiting for the next St Kilda game, when you will visit him again.

Looks like another nail in the coffin at Carlton for Garlett.

Carlton forward Jeff Garlett charged with affray over late-night incident

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-08-20/police-charge-for-garlett

I have a strong feeling he will end up back home in the West next year.

We'd take him, but wouldn't give much.

Remembered this from last month.

Carlton football operations manager Andrew McKay said while the players were the victims,

the fact they were out so late and covered up Robinson’s involvement was very disappointingwhistling.gif

Neither he nor Robinson have done their negotiating price any favours, being out of contract end of this season.

West Coast to take them as a package KhunWill?

We'd take Garlett as he's a WA boy mate.

I wouldn't really be keen on Robinson.

Apart from the fact he looks like an extra from Deliverence,

I don't think he's that good.

BookMan

This is the clip that reminded me about Robinson and Deliverance

Duck has some good ideas on changes to Brownlow voting.

I definitely think being suspended shouldn't preclude you from winning it.

http://www.watoday.com.au/afl/afl-news/coaches-should-get-involved-in-brownlow-medal-voting-20140821-106msn.html

Including the coaches is interesting.

Things have changed in the way a player can be suspended, that being video evidence used after the game, not an umpire report. Even a report could be erroneous.

Of course, just because a player kicks 10 goals or 100 for the season, it doesn't make them the best on ground.

Totally agree, people that have the ability to turn games dont get a look in against the you give it to me then i give it back players.

Does anyone know what criteria the umpires use as say compared to how a norm smith medal is voted on.

Voting procedure for "best"[edit]

To determine the best player, the three field umpires (not the goal umpires or boundary umpires) confer after each home-and-away match and award 3 votes, 2 votes and 1 vote to the players they regard as the best, second best and third best in the match respectively. On the awards night, the votes from each match are tallied, and the player or players with the highest number of votes is awarded the medal (subject to eligibility – see below).

The current voting system has been used for the vast majority of Brownlow Medal counts. There have been different voting systems for short periods in the past:

  • until 1930, only one vote was cast in each game. This was changed to the current 3–2–1 system after the 1930 season saw three players tied on four votes apiece;[2]
  • in 1976, the VFL introduced a second field umpire, and both umpires individually awarded 3–2–1 votes; this voting system was abandoned in 1978, and the two (and later, three) umpires conferred to give a single set of 3–2–1 votes.

Since the rules were changed in 1980, if two or more eligible players score the equal highest number of votes, each wins a Brownlow medal. Prior to 1980, if two or more players were tied, a single winner was chosen on a countback:

  • up to 1930, the winner was the player who had played the fewest games;
  • after 1930, the winner was the player who had the most 3-vote games; then, if still tied, the most 2-vote games.

Even with these considerations, these countbacks failed to separate Des Fothergill and Herbie Matthews, who tied for the medal in 1940.[3][4] The league decided to keep the original medal and award replica medals to the two winners.[5] In 1989, the eight players who had tied on votes but lost on a countback were awarded retrospectivemedals.[6]

As Croc says, the BB guy. He (Ryan Fitzgerald) was drafted by Sydney as a Forward hope, but never worked out. Played 10 games for Sydney, 8 games for Adelaide. I think he is on Novafm breakfasts? Not sure...

Fitzy played a handful of games before doing his knee, I think we then traded him to Adelaide... Honestly he's a bit of a <deleted>, this centuries version of Cappa... He's originally from SA.

I have to ask, who is Hutchy ? Is he the bloke that never played AFL but got a start in the 1st Ted Whitten match and kicked a bag of goals ?

He's a smart arse, humourless footy journo. Used to have a segment on the Footy Show years ago and pissed most people off. Friend of Eddy.

I find him miles better than Damien Barrett... Both useless in the overall scheme of things but I felt Hutchy was better...
