Popular Post kingstonkid
It is definitely a GREAT THING. Life in Thailand is about to change. The only other major party in the country has reached a point where it has decided to follow Suthep and others and resign to lead and add credence to the protest. AND the ONLY THING that PTP/UDD supporters and others on here can do is revert back to the name calling. This is an important step. The Dems would not have walked out if they did not think this was working and that change for the sake of Thailand was near. AV and his handlers have absolutely no vision of just walking back into power. This country will in fact be shut down for at least 2 more months after all is said and done and the Shinawatra party has stepped down and called a national election. If you want to blame people then blame the PAD and the groups that did not support the Dem's or any other party in the last election. They cut off their noses to spite their face and are ow paying for it.

How low he can fall? Molotovs, manning street barricades, arguing with cops? OMG, so Abhisit is now a "street punk", so what moniker would you put on the Shiniwatra's and the PTP? The current government is and has been for some time residing in the gutter devoid of intellect ,morality and competence and supported by a sector of the population devoid of cognoscente thought and the ability to think outside the little box in which PTP throw them scraps. There are many in Thailand that have the desire to hold government to a higher standard in order to promote the development of this nation and not simply the financial stature of themselves and their cronies..

Re-group - develop a policy platform and work out a way you can change the lives of ordinary people - and then they might vote for you. The Democart Party. What a misnoma! Ahh, that works in a country where people can make informed/educated decisions on who to vote for based on what's good for the country. Unfortunately that isn't how it works here. PTP pay to get votes, give the promise of putting money in the hands of the poor (who make up a large % of the population) which wins them elections. This is not a win based on what's good for Thailand, or policies that are designed to grow Thailand. PTP has failed on so many levels, but for the most part the poor will never understand the extent of it, nor the implications for the country. All they will see (and can understand) is, I'm getting more money for my rice (in fact and metaphorically) so PTP are doing right by me. Too bad it's ruining export, trade and putting the country into unnecessary debt, while tourists are being used as scape goats to pay for their stuff ups. Democracy is a nice ideal in Thailand...but it just doesn't work the same way as it does in the West..not yet.

kingalfred
PTP definition of democracy is "is when we win an election we can do whatever we want or what he tells us to do by message" And to all you who think its just 20,000-30,000 involved in this take a look at the numbers today in Bangkok ,plus all those who cant get to the protest. Dont you red thugs just hate it?
DGIE
I am puzzled. Mr. Abhisit is the former leader of the Democrat Party. Mr. Suthep has been the leader of the protesters. Is Mr. Suthep doing the protest in behalf of Mr. Abhisit (because Abhisit was not seen all the time in the protest) or he is working hard for his own plan? Just in case (but seems not) Yingluck will step down, who will seat for the highest position in the People's Council government? Suthep or Abhisit?
lifeincnx
the mob out in force here on Silom - a very early start too - hopefully they will f@# off soon so the rest of us can get some work done! People's Committee - what a crock! Accept the result of the last election and do what political parties are supposed to do. Re-group - develop a policy platform and work out a way you can change the lives of ordinary people - and then they might vote for you. The Democart Party. What a misnoma! Spot on. Another key element to move forward are elections monitored from outside of Thailand and the International community is ready, willing, and able. Even the current PM was willing to allow it the last election but cries from the right shouted "We are Thailand. We don't need you to watch us." The second area, even more difficult to achieve here, is financial transparency in Thai politics. That is, who is backing who based on "follow the money". This would put to rest (and put the hornet's nests on both sides under a much-needed microscope) the overly-used and disengenous claim by the right of vote buying. Historically speaking, Thailand is farther along in acheiving real Democracy than many developing nations around the world; our relatively open dialoge right here on ThaiVisa forums attest to this. True Democracy in Thailand is not an "if" but a "when." And that, no doubt, is what scares the heck out of many in the nation. What boggles the mind is that all you supporters of the corrupt come from real democracy's that would have put the PTP to bed a long time ago. So could it be that you all are dabbing in heartless heart of no morality? Just to get that straight: there was an election here in 2010, as fair an election as Thailand ever will have one (which of course means: not fair at all, vote buying on either side, corruption running wild etc.) and parts of those who are now complaining, shot themselves in the foot with their brilliant "no vote"- strategy. The outcome: one party more or less is the government, rules as they wish, fills their pockets, makes decissions mostly for their own...which simply every government since the stone-age has done...and all the (note: I am not saying "you"!) supporters of the opposition are now out in the streets and want to not only negate the outcome of that election, but are calling for a complete handover of power, to an un-elected government, to re-write the constitution and basically end all democracy, but at least "one man- one vote"... From which country are you, where that is even slightly okay? (Yes...I know! Thaksin= bad!)
