Don Muang to Suvarnabhumi Airport

This should be in the DMK airport sub forum.

You will be fine. Make sure that you take a taxi from Departures as you could be waiting over 30 mins or more at the AOT stand. A taxi should take 30-40 mins as this is a Mon and there should not be rain. Take the Expressway the whole way.

Even the free Airport Shuttle bus take between 45 - 1:10 max - the later being peak.

It took me over 2 hours to get from Suvarnabhami airport to the Bangkok train station by taxi. And the last 15 minutes we had to take A motorbike taxi ,and we had suitcases, never again.Next time I will get A hotel for the night.

When your talking about Bangkok during rush hour traffic, you never know, expressways included. And if it's raining you can forget about it.

If you land at 16.30 it will take you until 17.00 (or worse) before yoy get hold of your luggage (if you have any)

Taking a taxi at the stand never took me more than 5 minutes, but you might be unlucky, consider you might be in a taxi not earlier than 17.15 and at Swampy at best around 17.45 or more likely at 18.00, still on-time to check in but......

Last time I landed DM we had to wait long time before luggage arrived and it was a long walk from gate to luggage band.

Took us 1 hour between landing and getting into taxi.

Pay more and fly into Swampy is my advice. (or get earlier into DM)

I used a taxi 30 NOV between DMK and BKK because I was short on connection time. It was a Saturday morning. It took 37 minutes taxi driving at 110-120 km max.

350 B incluting tips

Coming back 5 DEC , King Birthday, between BKK-DMK I used the shuttle bus and it took 50 minutes.

Shuttle bus use toll way. Free and you need to show your e-ticket before bording. Arriving or departing passenger only.

There are numerous threads in the Swampy Airport sub-forum on the best way to get to Hualomphong station. Pity that you didn't do some research beforehand as it would have been a breeze on the ARL & MRT which terminates at Hualamphong station - most do this journey from the airport in 45mins-1 hr. You could have saved yourself a good hour, some money and a lot of stress.

Also, though it is not stated the impression is that you were going straight there to catch a train. Most people avoid that journey and instead go to Bang Sue station to then take an intercity train, again via ARL & MRT.

Anywhere in the world one should always have a Plan B. If you hit bad traffic and don't know alternate routes, the Plan B should always be to get to a metro station (ARL, MRT, BTS) which in this case you had options right near your taxi route the whole journey.

All learning for the next time. :)

Ogre, your plan to arrive in rush hours at Monday and get the Suvarnabhumi flight at 19,50 .... so so risky.

You arrive 16,30 (if you are not late)

you come out from aircraft, pick up your luggage and take a drive this minimum 45 minutes.

17,15

your way to other airport 35 minutes (as some-one told above) BUT only at Sunday morning !!!!!! during the rush hours it's can take 2 hrs also.

and you have to check in your flight minimum before 30-45 minutes, depends on air company.

Believe me, I know exactly the BKK traffic, "enjoy" day by day, and take my advises:

- you do pay a bit more and arrive directly to Suvarnabhumi

OR

- you do arrive before to Don Muang.

Many times happened to me Don Muang - Suwarnabhumi trip took 2 hrs by work-day afternoon.

When you started from Don Muang to south everything seems well, cause those elevated highway is dam_n expensive and not too much people use it.

But than when you turn to east with Rama IX. comes the black soup with lot of fever.

This trip is almost 50 Km.

You don't listen when some-one talk about early morning, after 21,00 or weekend at all, cause these times this trip is really fast, can be 30 minutes too.

But at Monday in rush hrs, it is crazy thing.

regards

Your post is rather delusive.

You talk about SATURDAY MORNING and 5TH DEC which is either the biggest Thai celebration with EMPTY ROADS.

This man talks about MONDAY RUSH HOURS, this means you have not any idea about BKK rush hours.

Good to know, in BKK the morning rush hours the speed average around 13 km / h, and the evening rush hours 16 km / h.

Off course the elevated highway helps, but when the elevated highway comes down to the ground and will be free of toll way the traffic becomes to horror.

Many people have lost international flight and this is a bit expensive game for nothing.

My post relate to my experience and that is why I posted the time and day. I guess TV readers are intelligent enough to have their own conclusion as they are not children. Be my guest to post yours when you really use the shuttle.

Everyone experience is different but honestly if you are spending 2hrs on the expressway during the peak hour on most trips then you are doing something very, very wrong.

Taxi drivers usually know which lanes to take to save a bit of time. Yes, it does jam up at the RCA toll booth but that is a well known fact.I have also driven & taxied this routes dozens and dozens and dozens of times over the years and never ever gone over an hour at peak, even in the rain! The majority of trips take 30-45 mins. Non peak I'd put it at 20-30 mins.

Even the shuttle bus reports have never ever reported a trip at peak hour over 1:20 hr (most are 45-60mins) and that is in a bus! Compared to the shuttle bus you must really must be doing something very strange with respect.....

Even in the worst case scenario of a Friday afternoon peak hour in torrential rain causing minor flooding and throw in an accident blocking a lane and a VIP escort shutting down the expressway for 15-20 mins you should be able to do this trip in under 2 hrs.

He will be fine as long as he gets a taxi from the departure level and doesn't waste 30 mins waiting for a taxi down at arrivals.

Ok man you won.

May be I don't know the time, may be I mix the gas and break pedals, may be which I told was only a bad dream.

Anyway today is Friday (13th), and I had to take this way in rush hours and it took almost 2 hours. If comes a small crash or rain ....but as I told you won, you know better.
