Nissan Almera vs. Toyota Yaris

Featured Replies

Looking for a decent car however not looking for top model from either of model. My budget is up to 550k. My concern is drivability and safety issue from either model. Anyone has opinion on this.

Almera is noisy, something always shaking, squeaking, overall from my impression bad build quality, the 1.2l engine is ok. Size wise too big. The Yaris feels like better quality but is seriously underpowered. This car needs the 1.5l engine back. The 1.2l runs in high revs and is pretty loud. This will result in high fuel consumption and shortend lifetime.

As alternative I would suggest (for a 1.2l car) the Suzuki Swift. That's a great small car where everything feels right. And it's perfect to find a small parking space somewhere in the city. Also from the price it's just what you asked for (top model goes for 599kTHB).

Thanks Madmax. Swift is just tinycar.I live in Chiangmai and no parking problem here.

Tried all 3, the Almera, Yaris and Swift for my wife, and ended up with a Sonic 1.6l. Should get it within the next few days. It's simply a different class of car.

Hear about the noises a lot with the Almera. But what about the this year's version?

Sonic sounds interesting. Why did you chose it?

I would have taken the Swift, but Madame liked the Sonic more. Bigger, more powerful, a bit more aggressive looking (a darker blue). Her car, so her decision smile.png

Two years into Almera ownership. No noises, no shakes, no squeaks. Build quality is fine for cost.

As for size being too big, I think for many people, its size is its big selling point. There aren't many eco cars with which four adults can go on holiday together. The Almera you can.

Build quality is fine for cost.

I somewhat agree with that smile.png. For 450kTHB I'd not expext the quality of a 100..150kTHB more expensive car as Yaris or Swift. It's a compromise to make. In the same league is the Mitsubishi Attrage. Worth to also have a look at this.

A good site to compare models and prices:
