Chevrolet opens new centre in Myanmar

Featured Replies

Chevrolet has opened a Brand Experience Centre and is launching a three-tier corporate social responsibility (CSR) campaign as part of its unique entry strategy in its newest market of Myanmar.

Chevrolet earlier announced that it would enter that country by appointing Pacific Alpine Myanmar as its exclusive distributor. Pacific Alpine Myanmar plans to establish a distribution network that will begin selling a growing range of Chevrolet vehicles starting January 2014.

"Chevrolet is rapidly expanding its presence across the region, including Laos, Cambodia and now Myanmar," said Gustavo Colossi, vice president of Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, GM Southeast Asia Operations. "With growing demand for personal transportation, Myanmar offers a great opportunity for our popular line-up of Chevrolet cars and trucks."

The Chevrolet Brand Experience Centre provides an easily accessible location for customers to learn more about the Chevrolet brand and its vehicles, he said.

Visitors can also learn about Chevrolet's CSR activities and community projects. Sales, service and spare parts (3S) centres will be opening in major cities across Myanmar. A Chevrolet 3S centre housing the Chevrolet Technical Training Academy, which will educate employees, is under construction in Yangon.

"The people of Myanmar will appreciate the same high-quality products and services as other Chevrolet customers around the world, such as a mileage-based warranty of up to 100,000 kilometers," Colossi said.

Under the Chevrolet One-World Futbol (OWF) initiative, the first tier of its three-tier CSR campaign, Chevrolet is delivering 5,000 virtually indestructible footballs to disadvantaged youth across Myanmar over a six-month period. In addition, the Chevy Cares programme will deliver two Chevrolet vehicles to a selected non-governmental organisation for a period of six months to help it expand its services to more people over a larger geographic area. The third tier of the campaign is focused on education and training. Chevrolet and its partners will donate engines and technical parts to mechanical training colleges in Myanmar to provide practical hands-on training using up-to-date technologies.

"CSR activities allow us to help empower individuals and communities in ways beyond what our vehicles can do," pointed out Akshay Jaising, Chevrolet Sales director for Export and Southeast Asia Distributor Operations. "They are also in line with Chevrolet's philosophy of giving back to communities in which we do business."

Hmmmm. Yangon is where the US and Japan made the commitment to build the deep water port, much to the chagrin of Yingluck who was already announcing that it would be just W. of Bangkok where a new industrial zone could be established.

Yangon is where the US and Japan bought large tracts of industrial land to be near that port.

The US and Japan are tired of Thailand's games about flood control, and high import duties for parts and materials. They are also greatly affected by the new minimum wage which is far higher than people earn in Burma or Laos or Cambodia or Vietnam.

Wait for the announcement of new manufacturing facilities in Yangon.

myanmar, the new detroit of the east, or the new new as there is already one claiming that going to pattaya

yes who would not be annoyed by high import taxes for cars & parts

good luck myanmar !

whish i could go work there, guess workpermit hassles and yearly extortion scams are not in place yet against the farangs that bring in money and support families

but thailand does not really recognize that /ever

at least myanmar knows it was colonized ...

And (GM) announces closures of factories in other parts of the world

<deleted> replies?

This is not a factory. The Chevy factories in Asia produce cars for sale in Asia.
