reclaiming back tax on bank interest (brand new thread late 2013)

I tired searching and culling through but think better to open a new thread with specific and clear questions:

When can this be done?
Any time of year or only tax season?
If only tax season, when is tax season?
How far back can one reclaim? Three years or more? Only one year?
What are the forms and steps to go through and what needs to be done?

An aside: a local bank branch tried to skirt around the issue of providing me info on a savings account.

They told me savings interest doesn't have tax but looking in the bank book after, it is clearly there.

(Can you believe how a bank does business here? incredible) blink.png

You do it in January ,get a letter from your bank saying how much tax you paid in the year(i believe but am not sure if you can go back 3 years) go to your local govt tax office ,banglamung in Pattaya ,fill in the form they give you and hand it in ,2/3 weeks later you will get a cheque . it helps if you have a Thai speaker with you ,when thhis is done they give you a small slip of paper with a number on it ,every year you take this back with you ,and it makes things much easier . it really is quite simple .

How does one waive the withholding tax on fixed deposits?

Mods please move to business, thanks.

No need to move to Business Forum the info is already there

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/560837-bank-savings-interest-rates/

But it is as i claudius told you

Also you cannot waive the withholdings on a fixed account

You may claim them back but not waive them.

Even a non fixed account once it goes over 20k baht per year is taxed.
