sceadugenga Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 In view of the pleasant couple of hours we spent together last year I thought I'd suggest it again. Suggestions on time and place are welcome by interested parties, I know of at least one who won't be around until after the 25th and that would be fine with me. I was quite happy with the venue (Central mall food court) last year, it suited our wheelchair bound friend who I hope can make it again. Food and drinks adequate but no alcohol between 2 and 5 pm of course.
villagefarang Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 You may need to use the PM function to extend personal invitations to some of our shyer members but I will do my best to attend on any date you decide upon. After the 25th would probably work better for me as my wife has friends coming around that date. No alcohol would not be a drawback in my opinion as I prefer clear headed, intelligible conversation. If we are lucky, perhaps our squeaky little friend the Hobbit will have learned some manners since last year.
sceadugenga Posted December 19, 2013 Author Posted December 19, 2013 I've got a couple of potential starters, my thoughts are before new year as well.
sceadugenga Posted December 25, 2013 Author Posted December 25, 2013 Sure, what's your planned date of arrival, we'll work off of that. 1
kevvy Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Sure, what's your planned date of arrival, we'll work off of that. Hi Sceadu will be in the rai on Monday morning so anyday is up to you .. Will be leaving 2 days later. Thank you so much for the kind offer . i hope you had a gret Christmas day . kevvy
villagefarang Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Either Monday 30 or Tuesday 31 would be fine with me. What about you?
villagefarang Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 (edited) For the new guys around town this little get together will be a great chance to test the waters and put faces to names. If we meet at Central Plaza, one is free to come and go as you please and you can easily work in other errands either before or after. It really is about as stress free and painless as anyone can make it. It really is nice to be able to wave and say hello to a few people when walking through the mall. Hope we see some new faces. Look forward to meeting my friends from "THE RAI"
Garry Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Sorry I can't make it guys. Not back from The Mai (chortle) until at least the 2nd of Jan
Sirius1935 Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Thanks but I can't make it this year as I am in Canada for Christmas! Next year for sure.
sceadugenga Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 Well the day seems to be Tuesday and would around 1pm suit everyone? Central mall upstairs food hall on the outside balcony? 1
bundoi Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 If anyone is organising a second event which may involve a decent Scotch (or Irish) or two in the evening I might well be up for it while I'm here on a short winter break (and boy these mornings really are winter - fresher than back home !)
sceadugenga Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 There's no reason why you couldn't get a few starters; as someone who drinks little and lives a fair way out of town I'd probably pass but that would be no reason to deter others. I suspect that some of us may give off a "coffee and cookies" image to casual observers but I'd be surprised if we didn't have a few drinkers in the line up. My excuse is old age. 1
bundoi Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Well nothing wrong with coffee and cookies anyway scea, and I wish you well with your get together. I was in central just yesterday - for pyjamas of all things! I never though I'd use pyjamas in Thailand, but the winter up here really is winter this year! 2
sceadugenga Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 Let me know if you get a few starters, I may drop by.
ripstanley Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 I was in the Rai on Thursday. I was tempted to make the trip from Phayao on Tuesday but being New Years eve we have a local celebration in our village. Enjoy the day. Please post some photos.
sceadugenga Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 Sorry about that, I'd have like to have met you. Not sure about the photos, a few of us prefer the anonymity of the keyboard most of the time. 2
Popular Post sceadugenga Posted December 31, 2013 Author Popular Post Posted December 31, 2013 Nice to meet all those who braved the New Year traffic today, great to put faces to names and see old friends again. Safe journey to Kevvy and his lovely wife who head home tomorrow; mind how you go, it could be a bit chaotic on the roads. 3
villagefarang Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Thank you Scea, for bringing together such an interesting group of individuals. I always like to be able to put a face and personality to a name. Combining the real and virtual worlds, for me, makes the whole online experience much more enjoyable. 1
kevvy Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Thanks for looking after us scea it was a real pleasure meeting you and your lovely lady as well.the meeting was great and the atmosphere was positive. Happy new year all. kevvy. 1
canuckamuck Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Good time today, it was good to finally meet some of The Rai Boys, a shame the townies didn't show up. Too much daylight I guess. I looked around but didn't see anyone that resembled Sceadugenga's avatar. Where was he sitting? Oh, and I got an invertor, thanks for the help, I think it was Scorpio who knew where to go.
villagefarang Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 (edited) Yes Scorp was the one who suggested where to look. Scea was sitting next to me on my right, at the end of the table. He left the gun and hat at home I believe. Edited December 31, 2013 by villagefarang 2
