IrishIvan
That's crazy luck to survive that fall into a house. The cab was crumbled. That guy will be kissing his amulet today. He would probably be looking at the number plate of his truck and buying lottery tickets with that number
andreandre
Whatever happened the poor guy is probable dead and maybe some wife / kids lost their husband / father. Thai newspaper reporting that the driver survived. He claimed that he thought he had the speed momemtum to get up the hill without changing to a lower gear. He was wrong, tried to change down, truck rolled back, much as posted earlier in the topic. I just don't get this Thai drivers not wanting to change down a gear or two when its evident that you MUST do so..''He thought"'? no , he didn't think, he just hoped Its oh so easy to do it before you reach the point of too late to do it, which is that you've either stalled and/or starting to roll backwards..still saveable tho' even at that point if you are a proficient driver...ooopps thats the problem...very few proficient drivers of trucks and buses..i guess very little or no training at all. Popular Post Old Croc
During three years (2009-11) of weekly biking from Phuket town to Kata and Patong I never witnessed an accident like that which is described in this post. Day or night. Just saying... it is not a routine event

MK1
Disappointing once again to read that they have assigned the blame on human-error alone rather than the other distinct possibilities being an overloaded truck, un-roadworthy having faulty brakes and dodgy transmission which are the other most likely pre-conditions that lead to numerous accidents like this. However, at the same time it's possible the driver of the truck, could as well be the owner, which could also explain the simple reckless driving charged laid by Police as the outcome. if true.
