Suthep not happy with press treatment, resolves to do better

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Rally leader Suthep Thaugsuban on Monday said he was not happy with the incident on Sunday in which protestors surrounded and yelled at TV journalists for what they claimed biased reporting about the protest.

Suthep said he will assign a specific area for TV mobile trucks and the media to prevent any reoccurrence of scuffle between the protesters and the press. He was speaking after meeting with representatives of the Thai Journalists Association and Thai Broadcast Journalists Association at the Rajdamnoen rally site.

A coordinator will be assigned to liaise with the media so that when and if a problem occurs, it can be solved within the quickest possible time, he said.

Yesterday, the protesters separately surrounded two TV reporters working from their mobile trucks and criticised them of reporting the wrong number of the protesters. The two denied that they had given any number.

Suthep also asked reporters to identify themselves by wearing green armbands issued by the TJA. He was not happy with what happened to the media, he said, but explained that the rally's security guards came from different parts, making it difficult to take care and control them. However he will talk to the security guards this afternoon to give them a better understanding about their duties.

Well I can certainly see where there has to be a better understanding on both sides.

What I would like to see is a little more detail on how he plans to set up his reform council and choose people for it. What would be his position on it or would he stand aside.

I like the idea but Suthep has shown he is unwilling to except any thing less than what he wants and he should have no part in it. Neither should others with a closed mind be allowed on it. No matter what they want.

It should be made up with people who have ideas and are willing to discuss them and change their mind if a better idea comes up.

So according to The Nation, the reporters were 'surrounded', whereas according to the BKK Post, they were 'assaulted'. Who to believe? As the Post has a much more detailed story and tends to be slightly less of a complete propaganda rag than The Nation, I guess I'll go with them. Sounds like it was only a minor scuffle, but obviously there protesters aren't going to get 'fair' coverage if they keep chasing reporters away. In fact, they're not going to get any coverage.

Great. Noting mention about beating the women up.

Go google about the 2 women reporters yesterday "Penphan Leamluang" and "Varunee Suesatsakulchai"

What an arrogant bloody-minded person that Suthep is showing himself to be. God/Buddha save Thailand if this bloke and the people that support him get their way and introduce any kind of unelected "council" to run the country. Then there will be a bloodbath. While the rest of the developing world is seeking more power to the people - including a couple of countries on Thailand's doorstep - this nutter believes less power for the people is the way forward. Yes, he has followers. But so does David Icke.

A historic occasion for Thailand, the largest mass demonstration ever conducted in Thai history and virtually devoid of violence and damage to property and all you can focus on is a minor disturbance between some hotheads and a couple of journalists. An occurrence that was quickly resolved by organisers and strategies put in place so it wouldn't be repeated.

Compare this to the redshirt riots, where the reds were encouraged by their leaders to commit mass violence that resulted in the deaths of 90 people, injuries to thousands, biblical scale destruction of public and private property and disagreements with journalist that resulted in building being set alight and exits blocked by reds with journalists trapped inside.

This is so wrong it's laughable. Waza, you have set yourself a new low. You and cartalucci ought to get together, you're made for each other.

Well Fabby, glad you get a good laugh out of others misery. Perhap if you read more than red history you would be better informed and more credible. Till then keep up with the red spin and the ambiguous comments, baiting and the personal flames.

After you have read the history of the red, I hope you would NOT say they deserves the 90 deaths. That will be too inhuman.

You seem to be very much familiar with Thai and world politics and politicians, so as a simple Farang, I have to respect your opinion. Also wish God/Buddha to save you from never being an "arrogant bloody-minded person" like Suthep.

Surrounded and yelled at? Bull feathers! They assaulted women, Thai women. Cowards. Curs. Louts. Scum.

Even in my violent country, people who lay hands on women anywhere in public find themselves facing a dozen adversaries. I once saw a drunken bastard at a nightclub slap a woman and suddenly found himself under a scrum of people who wanted his bullocks for billiards. I once saw a lout smack a Thai worker at a easy street bar in Pattaya, and the pile up was not mostly Thai--it was Englishmen, Australians, Americans, and two Russians who tossed him to the Thai guards and hoped he lost his manhood.

BAD FORM!

Damage control! Heinous lies!

Lets have Suthep & Co on the street for another two months and you will see that things will get more violently if he does not archive his goal. We are just in Month Number 1. give it another 4-6 weeks.

poor people, that follow either the red or the yellow, all this happening is just to confuse people and move the attention of peoples, from other big issue that are coming, yellow and red leaders are just passing the ball between each other, same same bad, and keeping the population split, and against each other.

Until people are fighting each other, they are doing their game,

Most of us in general Thai or Foreigners, in a foreign country or your own country, are this 3 things or at leas 1 of them, ignorants, self centered, don't give a shit about others, and in small or bigger %, we try to con the system or get advantage of it, so there is nothing strange, if some big personality steal or evade millions of dollars. If we could we will do the same.

Actually, if you've lived (really lived and interacted) in a foreign country like the US or similar western country or modern eastern countries like Japan or Singapore, you would come to a completely different conclusion.

Many people live with honor and values. Just not so many in intellectually and culturally undeveloped places Thailand.

One thing is for sure, your account of what happened in 2010 is wrong. The red protest in 2010 were largely without violence, until of course some people on the other side authorized the army and army snipers to use live ammunition to get rid of them.

The situation is different now of course, Yingluck, from the beginning has said she wouldn't use violence and she indeed made good on that promise. Much more restraint than Mark and Suthep that is plain for everyone to see.

Funny you accused me of being a red shirt, and a day later come up with blatant propaganda that is easily refuted.

Just when you think they have hit a low they fool you. I am a retiree living here by my personal choice. I have friends where I come from and I can afford to live there. .

So when I see nonsense posts like Fabby I think they must be here because there company made them come here and the corruption in the government is good for their business. What other reason would they want to support an Internationally recognized corruption ridden country that is getting progressively worse and when some one says let us stop this they object.

37% honesty to 35% honesty under the Iron fist of the Shinawatra"s and they did that with a commission set up to stop corruption. Who knows how low they will take Thailand if given the chance. Alas it looks like they will be given the go ahead to continue plundering and raising prices.

Welcome to the world of free press according to Suthep and his followers!

Yeah, and Taksin would have them slapped with a multi-million Baht defamation suit...

No, he isn't, that's obvious from his comments...

The earlier comparisons to the redshirt 2010 situation are interesting for two reasons, one because it is true that the redshirts were far more openly incendiary and confrontational from the start with the "Burn Bangkok to the ground" & "deaths among our numbers can only further our cause" type of stuff, blood-pouring and soforth. The recent massprotest, commendable, and then the following-on and lamentable occupy/overthrow stuff was very timid compared to 2010.

But two, the comparison is very relevant, because Suthep is ushering in a new Redshirt Seige II, coming to a capital city near you. With Steven Seagal probably. Suthep must realise on some level the enormous backlash his actions will probably have. And that he wont be here when it all kicks off. He will probably be in Dubai sipping cocktails by the pool.
