Now I understand the Russian Ignorance

I knew about it mostly from what others say and have witnessed but last night (Christmas Eve) I saw it first hand and I must say now I understand why.

We had arranged for an x-mas eve venue at a Thai friends nice little pond-side bar off Theppriset rd and were going to play music with the Thais and had invited quite a crowd for around 6:00. The bar owner (I will call him Mr X) is around 68 years old and a gem of a guy and very accommodating and friendly.

So we show up with all our equipment and instruments, amps etc and there happened to be one table with about 11 Russians eating and drinking etc. They somehow had figured out the owner's computer on stage and were playing Russian YouTube videos and wouldn’t let poor old Mr X turn it off etc however they were paying customers so we were nice enough to them.

One of them could speak very little English so we used him to translate to his group that we were there to play live music and although it was a private party, they were welcome to stay and enjoy. After he told them that we wanted to turn off their Russian YouTube music they all turned to us with their fat chests stuck out pointing at their chests saying “We Russian, We Russian, No No”.

Even when we were trying to set up our equipment they were running up to the computer on stage with NO respect for our instruments and equipment.

Even Mr X was getting annoyed because they wouldn’t even let him on his stage to turn it down so this went on for 1 hour and finally I just stepped up and grabbed my guitar and started to play and they all got angry saying “No No We Russian, stop stop”.

Well nothing a little Bob Dylan couldn’t take care of. Hahah I knew they would hate that. Anyways up came the rest of the musicians and we just played and after 10 minutes they paid their bill and left.

I don’t know of ANY other nationality that would do that. I mean would I go to Russia to a bar and just get on stage and start playing with their computers and play YouTube Newfie music? And not respect the owner of the bar? You know what would happen if I did that.

Sorry to any good ones but I have now lost ALL respect for those people. Glad I don’t have to ride baht busses.

You haven't run in to to many Brits in Pattaya, have you ? They are not very much different ...

Try to take your kids for breakfast at 8 am anywhere downtown Pattaya, and you get the

bold guys sitting with their beers and screaming profanities ....

It's Pattaya what do you expect. It's a bit like going to a crack house and complaining about all the crack heads.

I hate to speak bad of Russians,BUT. They do come accross as arrogant .As far as the club owner it's all about the baht.He didn't want to lose any.So I guess ya have to roll with the punches.

Probably the owner should have put A sign up at the door

Saying there would be A private party at such and such A time.To each his own.

The first thing I would be doing is not taking Kids to downtown Pattaya, around anywhere the desperadoes, drunks and derelicts hang out, so that could easily cover most of the Downtown

I have NEVER seen Brits act like that. Maybe you should take your children elsewhere rather then Down town Pattaya? I have had breakfast and have never seen these "Brits" screaming profanities at 8:00 am.

Well for him it isn't really about the baht and yes the Russians didn't know it was kind of a private party and that is why we accomodated them, well tried to. We told them they are welcome to stay but that they can play some Russian songs but not loud and not all night. We gave them 1 hour but still as arrogant as it gets. Private or public place you just don't take over someones stage that they built. It is not really a tourist type place and the old dude enjoys playing music in his own bar with his friends but is just to kind hearted to say anything.

Letting them listen to YouTube Russian songs for 1 hour you would think would gain some gratitude however they thought it was THEIR place and the owner or us musicians should not interfear with their fun.

Maybe you should take your party elsewhere you are bound to run into Russians in Pattaya ?

Sounds bad to you ?

Sounds as bad as what your saying to him.

And yes I have seen Brits misbehave, actually I have seen almost any nationality misbehave except my own because we are angels (sound crazy.. that is because it is all nationalities have their idiots and misbehave)

Since only one of the Russians understood a little English & probably no Thai, and I'm guessing the bar owner isn't fluent in Russian, exactly how would that have solved the problem?

Is your "A" key stuck?

Now I understand the Russian Ignorance

I would think you have experienced some Russian drunken incivility, but that doesn't necessarily translate to "ignorance" and I didn't see anything in your story that implied you understood it.

Now now. We generally only seriously bash Thais, Indians, Russians and Chinese here at hub of xenophobia. I'm sure we've all known some decent Brits, so it's not nice to generalize. Not the done thing don't you know.

As i see it ,Pattaya has become the "Benidorm" that the Poorer British holiday maker used to go to on a Thompson" all in holiday years ago, for the Russians ,so you tend to get the lager lout brigade with little money and even less manners ,but having had a buisness many many years exporting to a communist state ,i found ,to my downfall that they were ignorant lying cheating bastards to a man that we had to deal with. and honestly that was their good side ,i could really tell you stories about their bad side.sad.png

Who likes live music in 2014 ?

You encountered a particularly unpleasant group of Russians. Very likely Siberians, most Russians here are from Siberian part of Russia.

There is no other nationality that can compete with drunk, uneducated, vulgar, arrogant Russian.

Russians from Moscow and parts of country closer to Europe, dispise them and feel embarrased they carry the same passport. They have a name for them, it roughly translation is savage.

I don't get your comment?

It's Pattaya what do you expect. It's a bit like going to a crack house and complaining about all the crack heads.

Seems to me you miss Pattaya? Did you live here, and have to leave for some reason? Or you never been here, but you fanasize how good life here must be?

If I had to bet, I say you used to live here, and you miss Pattaya. Am I close? And if yes, would you admit it?

So 11 paying customers, all eating and drinking, who were there before the other guests get told they cannot continue listening to their music. Hmmm.

If you wanted to do that, why didn't the management explain when they started listening to their music that there is a live band and party coming on stage at 6pm and they can listen to whatever they want up until then.

Poor management, not ignorant customers. They were there first, they were all eating and drinking and paying for it.

That's pretty ridiculous. Just patronizing a business doesn't mean you OWN it and decide the entertainment schedule!

How did your party go?

" Listening to their music " I do believe the audio system belonged to the bar and they never asked if they could use it so where do you come up with this rubbish " their "?

I still don't understand why you now understand the Russ ignorance ? But I understand that you have met stupid retarded and a bar owner without b....

Why would anybody bring their kid to Pattaya in the early hours? Nobody would. This is a town for adults, be it very early morning, or late at night.

If you have a family with young kids, dont come here!

Pattaya is adult playground, and it is excellent adult playground.

You are married and have kids, your fun days are over, that is always part of the package... You have something precious, a family, now you are out of the game and Pattaya is not for you.

I have NEVER seen Brits act like that. Maybe you should take your children elsewhere rather then Down town Pattaya? I have had breakfast and have never seen these "Brits" screaming profanities at 8:00 am.

Drunk Brits are like boarding school boys, compared to a company of drunk Russians.

Who likes live music in 2014 ?

Err, it's 2013 but am sure will still like it in 2014.

Drunks of any nationality can act bad. I am an Aussie and have seen 1 or 2 drunk Aussies and many other nationalities acting a lot worse than what you describe. No one was threatened, punched, stabbed, physically attacked or shot, but HOW has this topic made it to 2 pages as I thought that rule number 7) Not to post slurs or degrading comments directed towards any group on the basis of race, nationality, religion, gender or sexual orientation. Hmmm Moderator Moderator where are you..? Maybe having a few drinks for Christmas?, ok, I forgive you ...

The only reason why these ppl don't get too much hate is cause they are russians and russians look "white" If they were chinese and did that they would get more hate.

I would say arrogant rather than ignorant. We must be thankful though because once they start driving around here, given their shopping trolley manners, we will have much more to say negatively about them.

It would be an interesting exercise to repost this thread using the exact terminology with one difference: reverse the nationalities of those involved.

A bunch of Brits, Aussies, Yanks, etc., sitting around in a local pub having a good time listening to music that they enjoy, downing a few (OK, more than a few) pints, and in come a large group of Russians who inform the first group that this is a private party, set up their equipment, and start playing music they like.

I am guessing that you could hear the howls all the way over in Hua Hin.

The bottom line is that every nationality has its good, its bad, and its ugly; throw alcohol into the mix, and the meter tends to get pegged way over to the ugly side, and perceptions of the events comes down to which side of the fence they are sitting on.
