I Voted Today
Peace in the Middle East. Better question is (if you’re a USC) is how your life was different or worse during his last Presidency? Which one of your constitutional rights were taken away.? Did you give the gas station attendant and grocery store clerk extra money just because? For the members of the LBTGXYZ community. Under Trump how was the gay bar/lifestyle affected under Trump? Was there a shortage of hookups? -

Is street food good for you? Old rancid oil. Cheap oil. Food dripping with oil.
I don't want anything fried on the street. The Thais use cheap oil that isn't healthy. They tend to either burn the oils, which are usually vegetable oil, or fry the food but the oil is not hot enough. I told the GF not to bring home anything fried anymore. When I need sheets of paper towels just to sop up what drips from the food, it is too much. -

Medicare v Private Health Insurance - Different strategies - Are you covered?
Judging from the past credit card changes the conditions and the cover can only get worse. But I'll use it while it lasts. In the end it costs me $345 to get good 9 months coverage with approval for a pre-existing condition and written policy certificate with my name on it. One very good thing about the credit card travel insurance policies is they don't increase with age - they only have cut off age. Most have cut off age around 80. The policies are free for both 25 and 80 year old with the same cover. -

Thai tax riddle: Elite Visa holders off the hook?
Well, seeing as that Elite is technically just a tourist visa, the point is moot. -

1-year extension based on your original Non Imm O Visa WITHOUT having a Thai bank-account
"nonsense", why, because you don't do it? Many people use their home country's bank account and an ATM here. Yet again, you extrapolate your experience to mean that is the definitive answer. Everybody has different experiences, some good, some maybe not so much. -

I bought some glue today to repair a plastic PVC chair
yes ... and that was the detective part of my opening narrative. It was to see how many folks picked up on my hidden humor .... and you were the second one who noticed, excellent. Anyway, the glue is still holding, I'll spray paint it and see if it holds for the long term ... I'm not sure about glue strength for plastic .. -

How to retire in Thailand
It has a rooftop, swimming pool and a gym. I rarely go to the rooftop. No good can come from being that high up. But I do laps almost daily at the pool. I suppose this is temporary as we plan to move to the US in a couple of years. My wife owns this condo so she plans to rent it out after we leave. I would rather keep this condo empty and come back to it whenever we visit.- 1

The EU's Struggle with Identity: A Shift Towards Xenophobia and Ethnic Nationalism?
I 'think' a lot of the problem of immigration into the EU is the fact it is made of largely young males. Young men are a problem even when they are indigenous to a country. My Grandparents went to the US as a family. Both they and my parents learnt English within a few years and were fully integrated, not sure thats true for the demographic entering the EU, who, if the media is to be believed seem to want to live in ethnic enclaves. I'm now a third generation latino, my daughters fourth and I would never consider myself anything but an American. I speak Spanish but I'm most definitely not a Mexican. Even my Thai son, born in Singapore educated in the US see's himself as American, while still recognizing his ethnic roots I think thats the real difference with this wave of migration we're seeing across the world- 1
