BANGKOK: -- Nation Group’s NBC Next Vision won the auction of digital new channel license with the highest offer of 1,338 million baht at the morning session of seven news channels for grabs.

Ten bidders entered the closed-door auction this morning for the seven news channels grab.

The price offered by NBC Next Vision was six times higher than the starting price of 220 million baht.

Coming second in the auction is Voice TV at 1,330 million baht, followed by Thai TV 1,328 million baht, Spring News 1,318 million baht, Thai News Network of TNN Group 1,316 million baht, Daily News-affiliate DN Broadcast 1,310 million baht, and 3 A Marketing 1,298 million baht.

Failing to win the digital news TV licenses are Bangkok Post-affiliate Post TV, I-Sport Media, and Mono Generation.

The auction for the remaining three children’s channels will be held in the afternoon with six bidders entering the bid. They are Nation Kids, Thai TV, MCOT, Rose Media and Entertainment, BEC-Multimedia and True DTT.

National Broadcasting and Telecommunications chairman Col Natee Sukonrat said the winner will be allowed to choose a channel number and network provider first and must broadcast within 30 days after receiving license.
