Bakeman
I have been coming to BKK for 5 years but only recently moved here a year ago. I enjoy living off of Ramkamhaeng road with my wife for I am not stuck in the city nor am I too far from a mall.
TTALENTINO
From Vancouver and now in Chiangmai...less expensive more opportunities. I still do miss a nice walk in Stanley park on a warm day from time to time. Sent from my iPhone using ThaiVisa app Ah yes, I used to run the sea wall there while I lived in English bay of the West End one summer. Took my wife there two Octobers ago for a tandom bike ride right before we moved here. Really a nice place!

tingtongteesood
Up north in Chiang Mai, More friends than I ever had in the UK. Out most days exercising with my pals or just hanging out in coffee bars. Had to dump a whole raft of friends that I didn't have time for, too busy. It's great here! Thai friends? Or did you join a expat club? No foreigner has Thai friends. I don't think any Thais have Thai friends either. NOT true at all, I have at least 2 very VERY good Thai friends and I am sure that a great many people would consider their 'partner' also a good friend..... dazzle
I'm also from Hawaii, but for the last 3 yrs am living near Thaksin Bridge (Bang Rak area of Bangkok). Great old fashion Chinese neighborhood. Lots of street life, food vendors, Robinson Dept. St., the river, and great transportation. I like it here! donniereadit
Bangkok should be great for meeting friends, who have lots of other friends, who go out all the time. In fact I think it's one of the top cities in the worl for it. Not sure how old you are but serious friendships can be difficult if you don't fit into some of the crowds over here. The Thai cultural barrier will be there with Thais, and with foreigners you either get a younger crowd passing thorough on holiday or older retirees over 50, or just sketchy type people you can toast with but never really trust. Big Pinkie
Ok, I don't thank you then. Like I give a toss. The information you asked for was none of you bloody business. Ok, I don't thank you then.cant understand why you are so interested. its probably the worst are for rabid arse sniffers. i dont go there unless there is something that i need that is not available absolutely anywhere else. thonglor ditto but worse. Oh well clearly I don't have your impeccable judgment when it comes to making decisions on where to live. Tell me, how did you get it so right? Oh . . . wait Border bombs, pollution, drainage, taxi scams, the road system . . . what next? The Thai people? Yep, you're definitely easy to please . . . pretty good with locations too yes i can see clearly that you belong there. for me there are obviously other things that are held in higher preference but you are unlikely to ever see that side of life. for me anywhere thats not on the edge of the unknown becomes uninteresting very quickly Edited January 5, 2014 by Big Pinkie

Well excuse me, Master Yoda, but you are the one who made disparaging remarks about the area in which I choose to live based on whatever prejudices you may have about the "farang ghetto" in Bangkok. I bat it back to you and you make a desperate lunge for the high ground with some gibberish about "other things" that I'm "unlikely to ever see". I wouldn't mind so much had you not already told everyone that - for a whole raft of dumbass reasons - you haven't been happy anywhere you've lived in Thailand.

quiuvo
From Germany. Live in Thailand more than 5 years. First on Samui, now between Suratthani and Nakhon Si Thammarat, next to a nice beach. If I get fed up here I'd like to move to CR or to Ranong. I like it here in Thailand very much, no intention of going back home. Good for you, really. Great heart for sure. I'm weak.

MrGaoMungGawn
My wife and I just finished building our dream home in a rural area of Nakhon Sawan. We are about 1km off the main highway between Bangkok and Chaing Mai. 10 km North to the nearest small city with a decent size Tesco and 40km south to Muang Nakhon Sawan which is a fairly big Thai city with pretty much anything you could need. We love the people here in the country side and I find I can't relate to most of the negativity I read on TV about Thailand or Thai people. We have 5 rai with a big pond and many mature fruit trees and the most amazing mountain view in the whole Provence! The stars fill the sky at night, and nature surrounds us during the day. It is delightful! I grew up in Canada and spent my 20's working in Florida and the New York City before coming here a little over a year ago when I was thirty. Could not be happier with the decision! You are exactly right. About the negativity.

watso63
Came from a rural village in the "West Riding of Yorkshire". I am English, but have to use a British passport. Always had the bug to leave so decided to travel the world, meet interesting people before killing them (in the defence of the realm)! Civvy street in the UK was <deleted>, Tory Bliar and Boring Clown ruined the country I used to love and the weather is...well! Did the maths (not math) and figured out I could afford to live in sunny Thailand. Now live in a house I built, not too far from Ban Ta Klang (elephant village) in Surin. Also have a bolt hole condo in Pratumnak/Pattaya to mix things up. Each to their own, but my village and others near by are fantastic and I join in with the locals. Always something going on and with plenty to do. Got a few farang acquaintances (indoctrinated to never have friends by the army) and like a good night out in Surin or Buriram occasionally. OP, check Buriram out...it's a dynamic town, they are crazy about their football (soccer) team, they are building a top notch motor racing circuit and there is some good property investment potential. Last point, I have read on previous threads comments about us yokels living in the sticks are jealous and would rather live in a city!! Not me, no way...I do 3 days in BKK and it's get me the hell outta here!! Only one city in the world that I liked and that was Seattle.....great music and nightlife. Anyone can pm me if they want to socialise. Always looking for cycling buddies...I need someone to help with the headwinds now that I'm knocking on a bit.
