I would be very much grateful if a School / College / University / International School in Bangkok could employ me as ESL teacher.I am an experience teacher who has taught English in China for three (3) years including University and in Thailand for 5 years.I have Bachelor in Education, 5 years Thai teaching license, Thai Culture Certificate, Diploma in TESOL.Though I know racism strongly exists in Thailand I believe my rich experience as a black African from Ghanawould be an asset to students and working team as well.Unfortunately I lost my recent job after traveling and back from South Korea of which my director replaced me.If anyone could introduce to me a new job opportunity. Thank you all for your concern.

What salary monthly will you accept for 20 contact hours spread out over a week ? (no housing paid by the school) It's also not clear if you are a Native Speaker of English. Please advise. If not, your accent if any will be an important consideration as judged by Thai staff.

As a Ghanaian National, mentioned in his post, the OP will not be a native speaker of English.

However, English is one of the official languages of Ghana.

I've worked with several Ghanian teachers in a government school and they spoke English fairly well.

The biggest issue with my particular school, was the attitude of students, Thai teachers and student's parents towards black teachers.

They were all asked to leave after the first term ended, but all 3 of them successuly found work in various village schools in the Kalasin Province.

Each one of these chaps had a 5 year Teaching License and a Bachelor's degree in Education.

I was unaware that a 5 year TL existed, and they all had paid a fair few baht for this paperwork and glossy card.

I am still unsure whether this 5 year credential is real or a scam on the part of the people who sold them to the Ghanaian teachers.

Good luck and look in the more remote regions and you should find work :)

On this sub-topic, I have seen the Filipino's with the 5 year TL. They didn't pay either. Another non-native speaker who also got a 5 year TL did find the "right" person to pay and like magic, got it in days. These were and have been accepted by the Labor office as well as used for VISA's. I wish it were easy enough to find this person, get the price, accept and pay it or refuse, and get on with one's life. But it isn't with the TCT.

Thank you so much Bruce for your concern. I will accept 30,000 Baht as my basic salary because I have eight years ESL teaching experience.

I would like to inform you that Ghana has English as an official language. All government offices use English to communicate

to the outside world. Besides Ghana parliament also uses only English for deliberation and policy making.

It will interest you to know that Mr. Kofi Annan the former United Nations Secretary General is a Ghanaian as I am.

Thank you.

Good morning Joe. Yes, having suffered this same type of discrimination head on I have learned to be concerned for the victims of same. It remains rampant here in Thailand, not only based upon race, but gender and age and even based upon your choice of shoes or dietary issues. It remains a difficult thing to overcome personally and more so, professionally. In you case the CV/Resume is going to be important. Ask friends to help you with that because it came across wrong in your OP. You say you have a Thai TL, put that out front is my suggestion. Most Thai's understand that. The rest, educational background and nationality will always be trumped by the Thai TL.

Regarding Mr. Annan, I would not refer to him in an interview with Thai people. They won't know what you are talking about. In addition, his latest Syria bailout has me wondering about his own perseverance and resolve so maybe, just a suggestion here, maybe you should leave him out of any and all discussions.
