Chalong circle traffic

Featured Replies

never seen it like this, backed up all the way to Super Cheap on the road coming from Rawai beach (Viset)

Can't be because of the new Macro way too many cars. Don't know the situation on the other side of the circle.

Have seen that quite a few times lately. Probably some cars on the other roads but nothing compared to Viset Road. It already starts early afternoons now bah.gif

At 8am this morning both Chao Fa's were backed up with no one on the Rawai side. A couple of hours later the Rawai side was backed up to Makro & the other 2 were OK. Last week at 7pm it was backed up all the way to Saiyuan (I feel partly due to all the traffic coming back from Laem Promthep). I used to blame the police but now does not appear to be any rhyme or reason.

@the above

Same here, don't understand it at all, can't be that many cars in Rawai.

Too many cars for a circle that was constructed for motorbikes way back when. I recall zipping through the circle with not a car or bike in it.

Police standing at the circle add to the problem. I find I push through the hesitant Thai drivers and dumbfounded tourists on scooters quite quickly if the cops aren't there

Don't worry.. it can only get worse.. The other day it was a line from vijitt resort all the way to ha yek... Took 90 minutes to the circle.. normally it used to take 4 minutes...

There is always a few farang on sailor bikes that hold up the traffic with their slowness. Add a few BBQ gai yang carts and nam keen 3 wheelers and it adds up to mayhem. They really should ban the samlors from going through the circle at peak times

Doesn't it get clogged up when that big school empties out? And the market on the corner opposite Tesco doesn't help.,

At the time of the OP's post (Posted 2014-01-06 15:03:57) there was an accident on the south side heading to Rawai - near the Por Minimart and Water / Booze shop. A few BiBs were hanging around, bikes and cars being inspected, etc. Traffic on the south side was reduced to one lane and very slow.

It took me 40 minutes to get from just before the new Makro to the circle.

So I think the circle got gummed up by people entering from the north, when they couldn't exit.

Who'd have thought they'd behave like that?

That stinking fish market spawns every Sunday. Another addition to the traffic woes. It needs to be burnt to the ground with petrol. Only then will the stench and traffic be cleansed

Sunday is always quiet at the circle, no traffic problems at all.

Glad I'm not the only one who has noticed the smell! biggrin.png

On the bright side... in future, when driving past, no need to wind up the windows on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

It was a Sunday market.

Exactly.

The stink starts on Monday, is really bad by Tuesday and starts to dissipate by Wednesday. biggrin.png.pagespeed.ce.XhpYJIv77v.png

OK, a bit of an exaggeration, although I did smell it this week on Monday as I drove past, but must admit I hadn't for a while.

Maybe it's the hot whether and/or lack of rubbish trucks...

I remember sitting in the Jasmin Bar on market days when they just empty the stinking fish and prawn water into the drainage ditch out front. Not very good having a girlie bar stinking of old fish

Have just read in PW that all buses and heavy trucks are now banned from using Patong Hill.

They now have to go to Patong via Karon, or Kamala.

Expect even more mayhem at Chalong circle.

Excellent news, we'll have an airport bus to Chalong, Kata and Karon as well :)
