Seven shot in attack on protest site
The Sunday Nation

BANGKOK: -- Seven people were injured after unknown gunmen fired into the People's Democratic Reform Committee protest site near the Democracy Monument in the early hours yesterday.

The shooting targeted protesters at the Khok Wua intersection on Tanow Road in Phra Nakhon district in Bangkok, police said.

Pol Lieutenant Thaweewat Thamrongwattanakul said no one was killed but seven were injured, including a taxi driver. A Thai PBS cameraman managed to escape injury despite a bullet whizzing through his trousers.

Scientific crime detection officers collected evidence at the scene, including a taxi driven by Wichai Paipod, 32, who was sitting in his car when a bullet shot through the back seat and hit him on the back. The officers also checked the trajectory of two bullets shot through a glass door of a rice shop and collected spent cartridges on the ground.

Wichai said he picked up passengers from Tanow Road around midnight for the Lam Sali intersection in the north of the city. He heard about 20 gunshots, one of which hit him. He drove past the intersection and decided to abandon the car and ran into a soi to escape when he heard continued gunfire. He was helped by onlookers, who escorted him to hospital.

The injured included Erawat Kaewsi, 28, who was shot in the right shoulder and another unidentified victim shot in the left of his torso and right knee.

Witnesses said a group of five teenagers riding motorcycles from Pinklao Bridge fired bullets into a taxi before more gunshots and explosions were heard outside the Government Lottery Office and around 2am, more gunshots were head near the Khok Wua intersection.

The Thai PBS cameraman was shot at an hour later while taking pictures at the scene. He was not injured because the bullet went through his trousers but he left the scene immediately.

What does that mean?

"The British are coming"

Could it be that the British were known as the Redcoats? What happened to the Redcoats?

It certainly doesn't apply to the revered Suthep.

Dodge A BULLET? Even David Carradine couldn't do that in BKK!

Hit between the shoulders usually means the neck... pretty swift to 'dodge' that.

The shit hit the fan the day PTP forced a misdemeanour.. since then the fan has been off... until.. I'm -quote TV - " <deleted> back" - came along!

Looks like they want them to move and take over the airport again? Last time, they kept shooting RPG's in, almost every night, until the demonstrators had enough and marched to the airport.

I think you mean M-79s which is a much smaller explosive round.

Not sure if they were paid by Thaksin to carry out the shootings.

But the theory cannot be discounted.

Another possibility is, paid by Suthep to cause rage already for tomorrow.

like shooting fish in a barrel - pretty easy when the protestors are unarmed

and what are the police doing to stop armed assassins having the run of the city - nothing

Interesting that these events co-inside with "I'm F'cking back

Another possibility is that red thugs are doing it because it is in their nature, and fits in well with red democracy.

Your rage theory falls down as the intimidation (as preached by the PM) may well outbalance the rage.

The overnight terror campaign continues, further underscoring the bravery of the men and women who were sleeping on the streets. Cowards are comfortable when they can't be held accountable. And they are particularly comfortable with this particular administration. Motive can be determined by action. But it can also be determined by inaction.

Inaction of the Black shirt Suthep's guard to retaliate.

Yes let's salute those brave brave fascists sleeping on the streets.

Sounds like someone is paying good money to people to cause mayhem, all sorts of scum on both sides of the divide

It could be they were not paid at all or were paid by someone other than Thaksin or suthep. So either post something of substance or stop trolling.

Is this the same shooting story as two days ago with the killing and injuring of seven with the M-16 as reported in the Thai press?

No, the OP dated Sunday says this happened yesterday, in the early-hours of Saturday.

and again the TV reds are hiding because this shows them up as to what they really are, thugs and hypocrits.

Do you really believe that the people sleeping on the streets are "fascists", as you suggest ?

Normal Red-leaning posters describe people like Suthep, and other leaders of the protests, as fascists ... but are you extending that to the many ordinary protesters as well ? wink.png

Looks like they want them to move and take over the airport again? Last time, they kept shooting RPG's in, almost every night, until the demonstrators had enough and marched to the airport.

They were furious because so many of them lost limbs and lives while the police sat around and did nothing... the reason why they lost their tempers and took it out on rather innocent police officers, running over one repeatedly as the camera was rolling. You can never understand what's going on now until you go back on youtube and watch the hundreds of hours of video taped violence from the two years leading up to their occupation of the Swampy poo airport.

I'm placing high bets that the commuters will be the ones to commit the MOST amount of violence in these shut downs. If I were in their shoes, commuting FIVE hours to work ONE way and FIVE hours home, leaving me with only a few short hours of rest, I'd be ready to get violent or give up and pass out ANYWHERE. Who wouldn't? Drivers will PLOW their way though the crowds of people out of rage. Security guards will probably use their guns on them and that's when the whole thing gets out of control. Yingluck should step down before it gets to that point or she will be blamed, at least in part for the events. And the election should be postponed until the internal matters are quieted down.
