The key to why most people who lose weight fail to maintain the weight loss

Around 40% of Indians are "stupid" vegetarians and yet this country produces a huge number of IT specialists to which the biggest world's corporations are allocating their IT needs.

We need to take B12 supplement which is the only thing that cannot be found in plants, solely for the reason our modern diet habits are very hygienic, the rest comes from plants. Our vegan ancestors eating more dirt did not have this issue.

Protein promote growth, it's true, animal and milk products produce bigger people, it's true also, but it also promote more cancers : The taller you are the more likely you are to develop cancer

Are you still contesting we evolved because of eating meat ? Are you also still contesting that chimps eat meat ?

Because it seems you have come back quite a bit from calling me a liar ?

*edit* have you read your own article .. it never said a think about proteins and meat... That is just wishful thinking. They are talking about growth hormones and such.

And 40% of Indians is vegetarian.. and who says that the meat eating 60% is not responsible for it ?

Your clutching at straws..

Never called anyone a liar, again this is turning nasty and I have no interest in debating with people incapable to keep calm

While I don't subscribe to the vegan way is best theory and I do believe we did evolve eating meat this has little to do with chimps eating meat. We did not evolve from chimps or any other primates. At some point in the distance past we had a common ancestor with the primate family but we in no way evolved from any animal species alive today.

You are right.. we did not evolve from chimps but we are quite similar to them. The whole point I was trying to make that even primates eat meat at times. (people seemed to think that they did not).

The whole point is we evolved eating meat.. and it helped us a lot as it packs a lot of calories and proteins. Now to state meat is bad for us (maybe in excess and combined with other bad things it is) is crazy.

I have no problems with vegans myself but when they start to push their way as the healthiest and that meat is toxic ect i get annoyed.

Personally I eat a lot of veggies, i juice them int he morning and drink them with some pulp. I also eat my fruit and stay low carb (not always possible though its harder when traveling). But just watch portion size and then it is ok too.

I wish to participate in a topic about losing weight and yet somehow the discussion seems to always be about something else ...

An interesting article related to the theme:

Yet many doctors continue to prescribe weight loss to all their overweight and obese patients. In doing so, they promote an intervention with a high rate of failure. And they sideline recommendations that are proven to improve the health of their patients in the long term.

Despite the popularity of dieting, most weight loss is temporary. Long-term studies show that most dieters reach their lowest weight six months to a year after starting a diet. Then they gradually regain all the lost weight, and often add more.

Weight loss is difficult to maintain because the brain uses a variety of powerful tools to return the body to its normal state. Our brains can reduce the energy that muscles burn while increasing feelings of hunger and reminding us how rewarding it feels to eat. These responses can last for at least six years, which is the longest they have been measured, and probably forever. For this reason, weight-loss maintenance is difficult even for people who have been trying to stick to a lower weight for years.

I'm going to ask a personal question poster above.

How much do you weigh?

No attack here but an ask. I'm 172cm 58kg hovering around.

Thanks for sharing but kind of silly because nobody asked and out of context of your life history regarding weight level, totally irrelevant.

Not sure why you are asking personal questions. This thread is a more GENERAL one. Not about any specific person's height and weight.

and how to get rid of this obsession?

If you're referring to the last article I posted suggesting there is an irrational and unhelpful obsession in the medical profession on weight numbers I suppose only through education.

From the link --

"If doctors want to do right by their patients, they should stop chasing the mirage of universal thinness. Instead, they should focus on helping patients create healthy, sustainable lifestyles that involve plenty of exercise, healthy food choices and minimal stress—and on learning to view their patients’ health as more than just a number."

LOL> This thread came to life again after a 2 year hiatus.

Kicking off again... I believe the key to why people don't maintain weight loss is because most people tackle weight loss by cutting back on food (calories) and ignore the hard part - getting their body fit, maintaining and building muscle... and keeping it up for life.

As long as people rely on the archaic BMI index to assess body fat levels, things won't improve. First and foremost people need an accurate way to asses their levels of body fat. Running around, as a person a few posts up did, stating they weigh xx kg at height xxx is totally pointless.

Case in point: My wife weights exactly the same as her friend and they're exactly the same height. Both appear slim. My wife is hard (lots of muscle), her friend is soft (lots of fat). They're even exactly the same age (one week apart). Her soft friend maintains weight by constant dieting and no exercise. My wife doesn't diet and exercises regularly. As for myself, on a BMI scale I would be classified as obese at 100kg/182cm, but I'm actually about 10% body fat. I can eat atrociously for weeks on end and not put on fat. If I manage to put on some fat I can get rid of it very quickly. The key is staying very fit.

First and foremost you need to know what you're made of.
