Medical Volunteers and NGO's

Featured Replies

Hello, My girlfriend and I are final-year medical students who currently live in Chiang Mai, Thailand. . .We were wondering if anybody knows of any places in the Southern Thailand area where a hospital, clinic or non-profit organization would allow/need medical volunteers?

Have you tried Doctors Without Borders?

Do you have a death wish?

Unfortunately doctors without borders has closed their branch here recently . . . i wasn't referring to Hat Yai, but more places like Krabi, and Phuket

Doesn't sound like a genuine spirit of volunteerism to me!

Go to where you're really needed, like the refugee camps along the Burma border, safer there than the southern war zones.

And anywhere in Cambodia - excellent charity run by a Swiss doctor that plays the cello, maybe in Batambang?

If you want to be in a fancy resort area just for work experience, show up there, bowl up at the poorest government hospital and get to know the administrators, expressing an interest in helping out.

Most places want at least a six month commitment to make it worth their while getting you productive within their org.
