malcolminthemiddle Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 Given the choice which beach would you choose to live near to, which beach would you avoid and the reasons why. Is there an online map showing the different Phuket beach locations. Thanks in advance.
seonai Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 Surely in Phuket the best beaches for a farang to live near are either Niharn or Rawai. The others are far too touristy. Says it all really.

malcolminthemiddle Posted May 21, 2006 Author Posted May 21, 2006 Seonai Thanks for the heads up on beaches that are not so crowded. LaoPo Must have been a senior moment and I'm not yet 50, thanks. jdinasia Many of your posts on TV appear designed to antagonise? Your post above is a typical example. kasi Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 Given the choice which beach would you choose to live near to, which beach would you avoid and the reasons why.Is there an online map showing the different Phuket beach locations. Thanks in advance. I don't see three questions! Perhaps if you narrowed down what you are looking for and why we could be more helpful. What season are you considering? (some beaches aren't very safe during low season) What activities do you like?(some beaches don't have jet skis and para-sailling.) Are you moving here or just planning a visit? (if you are moving here there are numerous other considerations as to access to other services) Many of your posts on TV appear designed to antagonise? Your post above is a typical example. If you are unable to make a constructive contribution, to this or any other topic, then please do not bother. <deleted> is the point to this criticism? Seems to me you're the antagonist or troller here.

If you are unable to make a constructive contribution, to this or any other topic, then please do not bother. Huh? I was asking Seonai a real (and relevant question ....) At least other posters see this ... even if you can't. We don't all have the same wants or needs in places to live ... your initial post left almost nothing to speculate on .. and although I have driven the entire island a few times Phuket isn't my area os expertise .. so I asked Seonai a question ... (oh well ) Some people choose to live on small rather isolated places .... some like to have a Burgerking or a movie theater ... That was the point of my question ... it wasn't inflammatory nor off base ... <unlike a certain reply>
simon43 Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 I see 3 questions I live right by Nai Yang beach, 5 minutes from the airport. Less touristy, less hassle from touts, good food right on the beach. Beautiful, safe swimming all year round. Oh and there are less 'expats' (which I count as a good thing...) I avoid Patong, Nai Harn and Rawii for the above reasons!! As for the map, I can't help you but I'm sure others can! Simon
Sir Burr Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 I live right by Nai Yang beach, 5 minutes from the airport. Simon We won't mebtion the aircraft noise though.

sadman Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 I'm guessing that some posts have been deleted, because I don't understand what the OP says in his second post, particularly about jdinasia's post, which I thought was perfectly ok. To the OP, my favourite place on the planet is Nai Thon beach. Very quiet and pretty much deserted most of the time. Achingly beautiful, with a couple of restaurants but no bars. The bad news is it is awkward to get to in rainy season and takes a good while at any time. I probably wouldn't live there because it is very inconvenient for everything except the most spectacular beach in the world. After Nai Thon, Bang Tao is my favourite, for similar reasons, although it is more convenient. Like Simon43 I also like Nai Yang, but unlike toaster, I've never had a problem with aircraft noise there. Sadly, Surin beach is getting a bit busy and dirty.
jdinasia Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Thanks sadman ... nothing has been deleted Am learning more from people's posts. Being at heart a businessman what attracts me to a beach area that I am gonna be spending lots of time at is a large # of tourists but what turns me off is that special kind of bar ... am starting out on a trip around the South again this week looking at places again (We are looking closest at Krabi)
malcolminthemiddle Posted May 23, 2006 Author Posted May 23, 2006 if you mean touristy ... has better selection of places to eat/drink/things to do etc etc ... would that be good or Bad Seomai? Well jdinasia, to some of us this post appears as juvenile sarcasm aimed at Seomai's answer to a genuine request for real time information. Your attempts to justify this post (a question which requires a one word answer) as a genuine request for information on a topic you readily admit is not your area of expertise is evidence of that. The TV Forum is an online community for the sharing of Thailand related information in a friendly and respectful manner, let's all try to keep it that way.

simon43 Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 Actually, Nai Yang beach, although near the airport, suffers little from aircraft noise. That's because the planes take off adjacent to the main beach, and between Nai Yang and Mai Khao beaches. The resort I'm building is about 600 metres away from the terminal building, but the aircraft noise is minimal Simon
steve w Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 my personal favorites are laem sing and kata noi, good food on the beach,quiet...ish,no bar beers anywhere near so the louts do not venture there(apart from me ).the walk up-down to laem sing can be a bit hairy in the wet though.

Is it a tourist type resort or for long term living? What will it do to your favorite part of the island having such a facility there?

I'm assuming what facilities are surrounding the beach in question...restaurants, bars, pubs, shops, clubs. If this isnt a consideration than prob best to state as much.
simon43 Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 Is your resort on the beach Simon? Is it a tourist type resort or for long term living? What will it do to your favorite part of the island having such a facility there? it's not on the beach - land is too expensive! It's about 600 metres away from the beach, on the small soi leading to the national park (directly opposite the radio aerials at the airport). Although long-term stayers are welcome in our 'luxury' bungalows, our little resort is being especially constructed for infirm/wheelchair/blind tourists etc, although able-bodied are most welcome! Each bungalow has no steps to impede access, with wide doorways, accessible bathroom, all switches at wheelchair height and with braille lettering etc etc etc. I could go on but George would probably accuse me of self-promotion Simon
monochaser Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 Patong is the place hands down. You got your topless Euro hotties all around and hundreds of very available Thai hotties at your disposal
Galong Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 Patong is the place hands down. You got your topless Euro hotties all around and hundreds of very available Thai hotties at your disposal Well, if they were all hotties that'd be one thing. Many are sagging old sows.

My opinion would be to get out and about in Phuket and explore. Living on the beach was my intention when I first moved here and now I have settled in up on the hills with a beautiful seaview and a nice cool breeze in the afternoons. I am not to sure what the beach is called but there is one that looks okay next to Patong and also over towards Club Med beach. The problem with touristy spots in Phuket is you can't even sit down at Starbucks and have coffee without 20 people approaching you to buy something. You really have to experience it to understand what the local Phukers mean

I just got back from the South .... <and Malcolms flamings aside> ... I ended up leasing a house for a year in Kamala. I had expected to be in Krabi but the partner thought he could get better employment in Phuket. Picked Kamala because it is relatively quiet and easy to get both into Patong for nightlife/food/work ... and Phuket town for shopping etc ... and easy enough for the partner to get to work wherever! So expect to see various questions from me in the forum from now on
sadman Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Picked Kamala because it is relatively quiet and easy to get both into Patong for nightlife/food/work ... and Phuket town for shopping etc ... and easy enough for the partner to get to work wherever! Good choice, IMHO. I'm in Bang Tao for similar reasons. Decent local bars and restaurants too, so don't have to head down to Patong if I don't fancy a 30 minute drive.
jdinasia Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Thanks ... I have always like Kamala ... I like the good mix of Buddhist and Muslim Thai cultures ... and its location ... of course if I had BIG bucks I'd be over in Surin
