Worry-Free Non-O-Visa Savannakhet

Recommended Posts

I know this isn't breaking news, but I just got off the blower to Hull and the lady confirmed that they can no longer accept postal applications for any visas Is this across the board with all the consults, I assume it is?

Regarding the Embassy in London (perish the thought) does anyone know how easy/diffulcult it is to obtain a NON-O based on marriage from there and how long does it take to be issued?

Thanks.

Yes. Only London accepts postal applications.

If you've got a marriage certificate should be fairly easy.

When I applied by post the girl rang me the day it arrived said if I had a marriage certificate would of got a non O visa.

Be lucky

Thanks.

The no postal apps for all consulates started in January Info here: http://www.thaiembassyuk.org.uk/?q=node/401

Better than Hull. Hull would tell you that you need a pile of money to get it.

The embassy will do them with no financials.

Next day if you apply in person. Reports are that by post it takes 4 or 5 days total (includes post time).

If and when I go, then of course, looking at mid -August hopefully, but have my new passport stuck in the system. May also end up going to Savanakhet, just hedging my bets here.

Good Post....I too managed to get a non o at savanna without any hassles. Why is it easy to get such a visa from savannakhet but difficult at other embassies/consulates? Who makes the decision? The consular-general? Can immigration in Bangkok suddenly request that savannakhet stops issuing such visas? Probably silly questions but just curious.

- having a re-entry permit on near to ends last year's OYSP won't be an issue right? They just void it and issue new visa isn't it?

- dates on signed copies must be the very same day one is going to apply at consulate or may be a more realistic couple days before?

- still not any financial requirement or as in other places lately needs to show to have at least 20.000 Baht?

Many thanks

What is a OYSP. The consulate will not void out a re-entry permit. You would have to be sure immigration on entry does not use it when they stamp you in.

The date on the singed copies does not matter as long as they have been done recently (not months old).

Financial proof is not needed. The only places that have asked for the 20k baht is some border crossings when you enter the country.

Many thanks for your answer ubjoe

- OYSP=One Year Stay Permit a.k.a. extension of stay

- Ok I will check they'll stamp the right one. By the way just to know, what technically happens if they stamp the re-entry instead? Have two valid visas at once? Or it invalidate the new one?

- Been told that now in penang they ask to see 20.000B in cash or bank book as requirement for non-O single entry but maybe my friend was talking about border and not consulate and forgot to specify, not sure about it

Cheers

You could cancel you extension at immigration dependent upon what it is based upon. They would also cancel the re-entry permit.

Using the re-entry permit would not cancel your visa but you would only be able to stay until that entry ended..

I had a report earlier in the thread, I am sure it is hard to find.

The car park is safe from the looks of it. I stayed at the hotel just adjacent to the parking lot (I arrived late at night), and the owner let me park there at the hotel for 50 or 100 baht (memory problems, ha), and he drove me right up to the border too. Cool guy. But, either way your car will be safe..... the border area parking is safe because of the layout and the businesses that are right there and stuff. I think there is a security guy too and the parking lot is pretty small. In short, it is safe, lol.

There is a cheap hostel a block or two from the embassy, it is pretty low class though. I would not recommend it. Good luck with that.

Ok just read through every post here again and understand there is parking at the bridge but still want to no how safe it is and do you pay for some one to keep an eye on it ,spouse like nong khai.

I see the Lena GH is the go but it's booked and the only hotel now with a pool is the http://www.agoda.com/en-au/daosavanh-resort-spa-hotel, at just over 2000bt .

Also read on page 4 somewhere a guy got the non O in one day ,is that still possible ?

Cheers.

Thanks Snake for the info, will park there and tell the missus it's super safe ,keep her off my back haha.

From the checking I've done I think the basic hotel close is the savanbanhao ,the reviews aren't great but location looks good and it's cheap.i can handle anything for a night .

Thanks again :-)

You definitely pay for the border parking. I am sure other will have good info for you. I walked right through the lot on my way and i remember thinking I wished I had parked there vs the hotel ie it seemed very safe and kinda partitioned off - not "wide open" smile.png

edit: and for all those driving, don't pass those white honeydew melons. I bought some about 50 or 100 km west of mukdahan and they were out of this world.

Guys a couple of questions re the Non Imm O application at Savanakhet,

I was married outside of Thailand so do I take the original marriage cert (from Europe) and the Kor Ror 2 with me?

Also are there any problems reported on rentering at Mukdahan, just hard to know whats happening with all the different news on crackdowns.

I have several Non Imm O's in my passport over the past couple of years ( two full year marriage extensions too) and recently I did two in / out visa exempt while I was deciding whether we were staying in Thailand or not (because of the coup), will that create a problem for me based on this in / out issue?

Thanks

FYI leaving the car at the border is safe enough, I think 250 baht per night, the only decent hotel with pool in savan I saw was the daosavan resort and spa by the river, unfortunately when we went to savannakhet a couple months back the pool area of the daosavan was closed due to repairs, due to a mix up in the booking we didn't stay there, there was a recently opened hotel along the river from the daosavan that looked quite nice, but can't recall the name. The savanvegas casino hotel we stayed the year before, it was ok but nothing special, we thought the rooms were rather smokey, the twice I've went there has been with the wife and kids, and we made a wee holiday of it with a few overnight stopovers on the drive up to the border from Central Thailand,

If you have a foreign marriage certificate (in Thai or English) they will accept it without the Kor Ror 22 (2 is for marriages done here) but it would not hurt to have it with you.

You will not have a problem with entering because you will have a non immigrant visa. The "crack down is only on out/in visa exempt entries.

So reading through this it is now possible to cross in to Laos in the morning, submit application to consulate, and then collect passport the same afternoon and exit Thailand?

I think you mean enter. No overnight stays needed now and the open-air car park, last week, was free during the day.
