UPDATE at 5.55pm: Blast injures 36 protesters

BANGKOK: -- At least eight protesters were injured when an unknown assailant lobbed a grenade at the procession led by People's Democratic Reform Committee secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban on Banthad Thong Road at noon Friday.

The explosion damaged a pick-up truck.

Several protesters were seen covered in blood on the Bluesky satellite TV that broadcast the incident live. Some of them were rushed away in a pick-up truck and a Siriraj Hospital ambulance rushed to the scene to pick up the rest of the injured. Bullet holes could clearly be seen on the pick up’s trunk.

Protesters were seen running into a deserted building, trying to find the assailant.

PDRC security officers said the bomb was lobbed from a three-storey building. The building is in the process of demolition.

The attack happened near Lotus Charoenphol shopping mall.

heres a thought - if the army was REALLY on the protestors side like red shirt jokers say they are - "waiting for a coup to start" - has anyone given thought to the idea that they MIGHT just give arms to the protestors. Remember 2010 when the red shirts invaded the army base and M16's, grenades and rocket launchers went missing? Maybe you like to consider that the protest is peaceful until red shirt "heros" start!!

There getting brave with daylight attacks now. Give the Weekend Warriors something to think about this weekend.

hoping for blood in the streets are we! Brave attacking peaceful protesters. Really How f*cked is that?

What we are hoping for is a peacful end to a fascist coup attempt.

The games almost up for Suthep and he has no allies as they have all been exposed and cornered this week by our sharp thinking and acting PM!!!

Enjoy it whllst it lasts as it is the last coup they will be able to stage in Thailand with any luck. Hope this will break the finiancial backs of their backers.

haven't you been paying attention?

Thaksin thinks!

Peua Thai acts!

Please don't give the PM (puppet mannequin?) credit she doesn't deserve.

Will history repeat itself? The last time the red shirt bombers were so actively attacking peaceful anti-Shin protesters, the protesters were forced to seek shelter in a safe environment which turned out to be Suvarnabhumi airport. Will they again be forced to retreat defensively to the airport?

What makes you so sure they were red shirts? Are you really so naive that you don't think these people will kill their own to justify a coup? You are nothing but disposable pawns to these people.

I doubt they are bombing themselves - too many injuries and too close to Suthep.

I hope if they caught the bomber, hope they let him have a phone call to Yingluck before they lynched him...

I hope they catch him and question him, in front of witnesses, (so it can't be said it was the military) by one of the military specialists, who "know how to get information out of anyone" I am quite o.k. with torture, to get the truth, after what he did!

I would love to see all rumors put to rest, once and for all.
