I like the way the report said 'Trang' number plates.

It is almost like the car was deliberately taken to be abandoned as some form of 'suggestion'.

It's a pity the police got the girl, now everything will be twisted and distorted. If she is a red shirt, she will be released and that is the last anyone will hear about it. Same as all the other arrests.

This is why the army need to push out the police and do the job themselves and maybe we will get results, but more importantly, explanations.

So it had trang plates, why when something is with details is there you get on the defensive ? the police dont need the army if they can control the checkpoints then all the better, you whine when they dont do something you whine when they do....

good they have someone maybe they can get some answers.

its great they go the girl lets hope they find out a lot more, like maybe who was driving and why a southern car is up here running checkpoints with bullet holes in it.

The checkpoint had bullet holes?

Sounds whacko...trying to break through a police checkpoint with a car? Not very organized. Probably some drunks or guys on Yabba, thinking, they can take things into their own hands?

So the police shot holes in the car, but let the two guys get away??? More police efficiency, I see rolleyes.gif

can someone please clarify.

when i read the article it seems like the car breached the checkpoint and guards or police opened fire on it.. (why would it otherwise have bullet holes in it?)

To me it sounds like some drunk party that took a wrong turn and didnt want to be caught drunk driving..

Most worrying is who shot at them? with what authority?

Very few details.

For me, the bizarre statement of the day was when the police were reported by the BP to have lists of those possessing hand grenades of the type used in the weekend attacks. They have lists? It reminds me of my same reaction when they announced a few years back that the known child sex workers declared Cambodians as their main clients, and again they had lists?

The fact that there was a woman detained means that there is a very big clue to the investigation. Most people would naturally view it that way. But in the hands of the police, one never knows if it will lead to anything. After all, the police have to be sure that whatever they find fits in with their narrative. And Surapong's recent narratives suggest that something along the lines of a John le Carre novel would be much better.

Police provide protester security at Victory Monument

13902830712454.jpg

BANGKOK, Jan 21 - Police were deployed today at a major rally site of the anti-government People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) to ensure protesters' safety following recent bombing attacks against them resulting in a number of injuries.

PDRC key leader Thaworn Senneam, held a news conference with Senior Pol Col Chusak Techarakpong, deputy commander of the Metropolitan Police Division 1, regarding security measures at the Victory Monument after Sunday's grenade attack which wounded almost 30 people.

Mr Thaworn said 30 police officers have been deployed at the Victory Monument for the first day today and will be divided into four groups. They will be on duty at the protest site from 8am to 8pm, while from 9pm onward, they will set up checkpoints surrounding the rally venue.

Last night, a car broke through a police checkpoint into the protest site. Col Chusak said the driver has earlier broken a checkpoint outside the Bumirajanagarindra Kidney Institute in Phayathai district and get through another checkpoint to the protest venue but it was intercepted by police. Two men managed to escape the scene but one woman was nabbed.

He said the group was believed to be member of drug or illegal cars smuggling rings.

Mr Thaworn said the incident has nothing to do with or not intending to harm the protesters, urging the PDRC supporters to be confident of security measures as police now are on duty.

He said an arrest warrant was also issued against a suspect of Sunday bombing and he believes that the bomber will be arrested soon.

Today the protesters ae Victory Monument are scheduled to march through Phaholyothin Road to block the headquarters of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, as well as the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion. (MCOT online news)

Woman Arrested After Rally Drive-By Shooting

By Khaodod English

BANGKOK: -- A woman has been arrested in connection with the drive-by shooting incident at anti-government protest rally site in central Bangkok.

The incident took place at around 02.00 today at a People′s Committee for Absolute Democracy With the King As Head of State (PCAD) rally site near Victory Monument.

Witnesses said a Honda Civic driven by 3 individuals approached the protest campsite from Phayathai Road, circled the Monument twice, before the assailants rolled down the windows and fired at least 3 shots at the protesters who were camping there.

The car then attempted to escape along Phaholyothin Road but crashed into metal barricade placed there by PCAD guards, according to witnesses.

The suspects reportedly fired their weapons to make way for the escape. Two managed to slip away into the night, but one of them was apprehended by PCAD guards.

The suspect was identified as Ms. Orawan Charbkan, 27, and was handed over to police officers for further interrogation.

One of the suspects who escape was described as male, "fat", wearing green jacket, blue shirt, and grey pants, while the other suspect was described as male and "lean".

The suspects′ car bears the license plate issued in Trang province, and there were bullet holes on the vehicle, suggesting that the PCAD guards might have shot at the car as it attempted to escape. No injury has been reported.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

The drive-by incident took place just few days after an unknown individual lobbed a grenade at the protesters at Victory Monument, injuring at least 28 people.

Hahaha

Last report said that the car was riddled with bullets.

I doubt very much that this is anything other than an attempt to attack the protests. The police unfortunately have a woman they arrested, and seems everyone they arrest the police instantly deny they are protest attackers. Just another cover up by the police.

I have said it once and I will say it again.

Get rid of the police, and put the army in their place and we may see some results and get some explanations.

2 completely different reports one sighting an attack on protesters, the other saying it was nothing to do with the protesters.

The police once again seem to be allowing attackers into the protest sites (2 checkpoints breached). Then the whole thing was bungled. But it's OK, according to the pigs they are harmless druggies or car thieves (when they make their minds up). Not a threat.

Why the hell do the protest guards hand these animals to police to be instantly cleared and released???????

I wonder what Prayuth is making of all this BS from the police.

2010 most were unruly to say the least. again a one sided memory loss post from you.

Senior Pol Col Chusak Techarakpong is stating so soon after the event that the assailants were involved in either drug or car smuggling rings and not there to cause trouble? Seriously? Why would they even try to break through any checkpoints when they know it's a "protest" area and security is in place?

And why only 30 Police guarding that area? If they were serious about protecting people/anyone, they could ring each protest site with a wall of Police very easily. It's a joke.

Must have been pretty crowded in the driver's seat, and 6 hands on the steering wheel. cheesy.gif

Yeah...the people are so fed up with the protesters that they line up along the street on a daily basis waiting for Suthep so that they could throw their own money at him and have their picture taken with him.

As for "Red Dawn", if and when the truth dawns on them, it will be end of the current Government; and Yes...hopefully in "2014".

Also sends out the message that the police will ensure safe passage to attackers and then clear them if they get caught.

No wonder they are getting bolder and more audacious in their assaults.

If any of these were linked to the PDRC or PCAD or even the military. The police would be straight into prosecution mode with pictures of the attackers sitting at a desk pointing at their weapons with a bunch of proud faced police in the background.

A bit like the 2 PDRC guards they caught with firecrackers and a machete. The police would not waste time.

Just goes to prove really that none of these attackers are from PDRC or PCAD, but in fact red shirts or police themselves.

Someone reported this lady has been caught with weapons and ammunitions before as shown in the photo with a guy in Jun 2013. But she is release from police. Wondering who exactly is she?

Just a little "GunPlay three some" between the Lady, and the fat and slender guys.

They must have gotten excited when the Lady was helping them shoot the boyz guns and lost control..............

One can only hope that the 'reform' start up list includes total and absolute reform of the Thai police from top to bottom.

They have yet to say where Ms. Orawan Charbkan comes from, a Trang number plate but her home province would be interesting, and is no doubt known by now.

Seems Sutheps attempt at over throwing the government has failed miserably and is fizzling out, so hopefully elections on the 2nd and back to normality well as normal as it gets.

Yes, well, god forbid the police would arrest the protest leaders, put the protestors on the sidelines and plow the barricades instead of protecting the anarchists while they march on to shut down more government agencies.

Look up the word anarchist and see if you think it really applies to protesters whose main aim is to oust a corrupt regime that disobeys the law.
