Today I got information form AIA Company that they do not cover my sport accident. I got some damage for my shoulder when lifting weights. This is sport accident. They told me that it “accident” must be some external object to hit you. So in that case they will also not cover if you are jogging and cut accidently your leg. Well, this is only one example. I found out that they do not cover also cancer if I do not need to stay continuously in hospital. Surgery fee and hospital days are covered for some limit but not medication in case you can be at home at all kind of illnesses.

So, I think I will cancel all our family insurances and try to find something more useful. Currently I’m paying about 70.000 thb for our family insurance. For my 5y son, 34y wife and 48y me. My stake is about 30.000 from it because I'm oldest. So I'm looking for good coverage about same amount of money.

I’m not looking that much coverage for small things but in case some big thing will happen I want full coverage. Meaning that about 20.000 per year I can pay myself if something happen but all on the top of that is covered by insurance. I believe there are not tailored insurances in Thailand only some packages.

So if you have a good advices or ideas to get good insurance coverage and value for money please let me know. If you need something more have to pay separately in AIA and it does not make any sense in case the total amount will rise to sky high.

Interesting post and one that many who insure with them should check.

You need to remember AIA is a Life Insurance company and not a specialist Medical Insurance company.

Looking at your premiums you seem to have been overcharged as for less premium for you and the family you can get a policy from Allianz with far more cover than you have from AIA (in excess of 15m Baht) which includes accidents – yes lifting weights – and cancer !

May we suggest you PM for details on your personal needs ?

Sure!

Happy to hear. You could contact me with private message first and / or if you like to do some marketing then post it here in case someone else is interested and could make also valid questions.

(Ofcourse I would like to keep my private insurance in private and out of public discussion).

i've just taken out full coverage with Cigna Global Health online for just less than 1000 euros/year (i am 40).. confirmed they cover motorcycle accidents including track days & off-road and cancer cover takes effect straight away.... they also confirmed i could cancel with refund any time as in my line of work, i sometimes get pretty decent medical included in the contract.

Had a look at Bupa.co.th but thought it was messy as there are too many options...especially as they have hospital fees for "accident plan" separate to "medical plan" .

Just wanted some good coverage for a prolonged stay in ICU from an accident or cancer/ coronary treatment which i think the Cigna basic package covers ok...

There's only one thing that all those private medical insurances want and that is to get the raisin in the porridge. You are 40, wait till you are 50.

how much would you expect to pay for 50 plus? i got the basic package for 1000 euros and wouldn't really want to be paying much more than that ?

Depends, if you continue the Insurance then there will be no problem i guess but when you apply at 50 and have developed some ilnesses then it's much harder and with exclusions and/or higher premium ...
