Businessman killed in drive-by [Cambodia]

Featured Replies

A property developer was killed in a drive-by shooting in the capital’s Tuol Kork district on Monday night, a commune chief said yesterday.

Chhoeung Chanhong, 46, was shot dead by two men on a motorcycle at about 7:40pm, said Ham Kea, chief of Tuol Kork district’s Boeung Kak I commune.

“He was shot by two unknown men while travelling with a Singaporean friend in his Lexus on Street 289,” Kea said, adding that the vehicle had stopped when the motorcycle pulled up alongside it.

“One bullet hit his right shoulder and another hit him in his right armpit. He died at Calmette Hospital about an hour later.”

Kea added that according to a preliminary police investigation, Chanhong’s murder was thought to be the result of a feud between the victim and a third party, whom officers suspect of hiring the killers.

“We don’t exactly know the reason … but we suspect this is to do with rancour,” he said.

Lieutenant Colonel Houth Yarann, Tuol Kork district police chief, said officers were yet to identify possible suspects.

“We’re working hard on this case in order to bring those that did this to justice,” he said.
