BANGKOK: -- Protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban and leaders of all eight protest sites of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) kicked off the 3-day mass street march this morning as the 3-day election countdown begins.

The march today aimed to invite Bangkok people to come out to boycott the February 2 election.

Security today was heightened to maximum as leaders of all eight protest sites jointly took part in the march today along the Sukhumvit road to Phra Khanong which could pose easy target for attack by ill-intention group of people.

Security for all PDRC leaders were well planned to protect them as the Center for the Administration of Peace and Order chief Chalerm Yoobamrung vowed to make arrest all leaders, particularly Suthep, before the election date. The march started from BTS skytrain station at Orn Nuj along the Skhumvit road to Phra Khanong and Asok.

The protester procession is several kilometers long extended up to Bang Na All motorists using the inbound traffic of Sukhumvit road were advised by traffic police to avoid Sukhumvit and used other roads such as Srinakharin and the old railway route (Rod Fai Sai Kao) instead.

Suthep said last night that protesters would not blockade polling stations on February 2 but would only protest the election with peace.

He urged all voters not to go to the poll but join the protest to oust the caretaker prime minister.

Be interesting to see where this puts the implementation of the SOE rules given that meetings of 5 or more were not allowed outside the recognized protest sites.....................whistling.gif

This is forcing the caretaker government into making biiiiig decisions now

Hope they don't block the elections again. They have no right to do so. They should turn to suggesting people to vote NO. Pressure should be put to investigate governments movement by independent commissions and this would remove most of tsksin clan from power by itself.

He looks more and more like Mussolini every day

Yes - nut unlike the one in Dubai - he does not act like him!! Only to remove him!! Your Churchill looked quite bombastic too!!

I was wondering how long it would be before someone started chanting Dubai, and one assumes, blowing a whistle between chants.

Churchill was a genius in many ways, both as a writer, politician and war leader but, as with many geniuses, he lacked ability in his personal life.

Can't see history, even here, regarding Suthep as a genius in any aspect of his life.

The true genius on the yellow side of the divide was Sondhi L. He took a personal grievance with thaksin and pressed all the right buttons- (accusations of republicanism, massive corruption, and ethnicity - as in People of Chinese Descent Saving Thailand.)

His proposed style of government tapped into a yearning among many for the 'good old days' when good men ruled and the people were happy.

Rice in the paddy, fish in the streams, etc

He also appealed to xenophobia, to authoritarian instincts, to the respect that many Thais have for blind submission to hierarchy.

He touched all the bases- and like him or not, he deserves credit of some kind because this is PAD writ larger than even in 2005.

Just was reading about the warm reception that Suthep's demonstrators are getting on the streets of Bangkok. This might come to be a rally.

Also just read news that the Courts are seriously considering of revoking the "Emergency Law", in order to protect the demonstrators.

Another twist....and yet another...and then...more?

And there i was wondering how long it would take some clown to bring up the Mussolini connection yet again. clap2.gif

" Suthep said last night that protesters would not blockade polling stations on February 2 but would only protest the election with peace. "

It is important that Suthep says this and more importantly does this. If that actually happens that will be a powerful visual message. People who are amassed peacefully speak more loudly and are heard much further. Having said that, many people on the streets may not heed this, in spite of his wishes. That is the fear, and that should be the top concern. Passions are running very high at the moment - higher than at any other point in Thai political history, and the exact card the police play is still uncertain, and in fact may very well tip the balance if it is a card that is overplayed. The objectives of the PDRC, though, become enhanced through peaceful means. They have largely been true to that up to this point and that is encouraging. But splinter groups within it have not always been in step. For it to have a truly meaningful impact they need to be unified on this. Peace needs to be the tool as well as the message itself.

Suthep has stated that his proposed council of good people, some drawn from various sectors of the economy, some appointed on basis of merit, could be in place for 2 years. After two years of gov't by good men, do you think they will simply retire and permit the popular will to once more threaten the status quo that they so assiduously defend?

If they do not retire and return the gov't to popular will (Thida & co) how will the political system be different from the Grand Council of Rome?

Well, at least they have guts! wai2.gif

If they had guts they would be putting there proposals to the electorate on Sunday.

Watched the protesters pass Phra Khanong an hour ago, maybe 800-1000 people, being generous, at most.

No one lining the streets waving them on, no great mass of people.

Seems as the rhetoric ratchets up protester numbers go down.

That's a little short of the 6 million that Suthep says he has on the streets. Maybe you need to do a re countbiggrin.png

I think this guy is suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s or something, he forgets what he promised the day before and then vows to do the exact opposite!

Can't believe some farangs still push it to get involvd in Thai political protests. Especially since a SOE is in effect.

Unless there as a credentialed member of the Press and only observing and reporting.

Why would anyone want to get involved in such stupidity?

Sickening that his puppies in the media crop the shots or shoot upwards to hide that. The shots from the air show he is finished.

The guards were probably worried more about photographers taking pics of the shrunken mob than of hitmen.

So, with all the guards and staff and masked men and army detail, that means suthep is down to his last few hundred. So they pass an office at dinner time and a few more come out to look and makes it appeart bigger.

More thugs on the street again today.. Sickening

Forget this twist as well.

PDRC filed a Criminal lawsuit in connection with the order to freeze the bank accounts of protest leaders .

A good game of chess played by both sides. Suthep has put 3 checks on the board just recently.

What bad biased reporting again. The route is 7km long not the mob length.

Low numbers again and now many many more on the respect my vote marches and vigils.

Silom today, just a few goons left and what is noticible about this is that the PDRC, as the vendors claim on Thai TV have marked out the street and have thugs collecting money off them.

You can clearly see it here. So extortion, illegally letting out Thailand, to add to a thousand crimes.

Police cheif stated on all Thai TV, that people should not think the Government is finished, and should be prepared to face the music after the elections. If they see of Suthep,,,, most of these goons are going down.

If they don't see of Suthep, Suthep will have to set up an Amnesty Bill or they will all be in the nick.. how hypocritic is that

BfM_jfiCUAAjC7y.jpg

Congrats. Another mind numbingly dumb post. Must take you ages to work all this out. Why don't you make a little folder of all your proofs and accusations and take it along to the police or PTP, so they can use it against Suthep. I'm sure insights like yours will be welcomed with both hands and you will be a hero...

The farang was stupid enough to be inerviwed while within the protest and giving an opinion on tv.

The government can't find the attackers, but bet they can find the farang who blatently gets directly involved.

"Run Forrest Run" while you still can
