No idea about renting one, but one expat in CM used to own one. He never took any customers, but was constantly harassed, cursed, and even had other tuk tuk drivers trying to run him off the road.

I know someone that has (or had) several - but they were not your run of the mill yellow plated tuk tuks, but the type with the motorcycle front sticking out and stylish cabin back. You can buy them privately - if its not yellow plated or marked with "taxi" then I doubt you'd get a hard time from the locals.

There was a farang Thai here that used to taxi a tuk tuk, but not seen him about for years now - anyone remember him. White face, but had Thai nationality (from birth I believe). I understand he was quite hated by some tuk tuk drivers, others were used to him and were OK - at least that's what I heard hearsay.

I knew a German guy in Pattaya that bought one, spent a lot to do it up. He used to drive around the streets of Naklua - flat out - in 1st or 2nd gear, usually after the 13th beer for the day. Went with him once - funny, but scared the crap out of me. He was never bothered by anyone. Don't know how he got away with it.

I own a sam lor. Like a tuk tuk of the north. Paid 54,000 off the showroom floor. 250cc 5speed, sits on 80km/hr comfortably but slow is always better on Thai roads. Unlike the CM expat I have never been hassled, in fact the complete opposite, it has gotten me to the point where the local cops know me and always give me a wave plus the locals always get a good smile out of them.

As a joke once I pulled up at the place they all wait for trips in front of Tescos, the look on their face was great but they all cracked up laughing, they knew I was joking.

> i would like to rent a tuk tuk and drive it just for fun.Can i rent one?Where to rent?Any place you know is ok.Thankd for your answers?

Wouldn't cost you much to negotiate with one of the drivers, just pay him at least as much as he'd be making for a shift, let him be your passenger until he gets to trust you enough to let you off on your own.

Or pay them to tell you where they rent it from and how much, go there and offer triple. . .
