P.s. Have you ever heard of satire?

Yes, it's someone who has uncontrollable elections like those guys with goat hind legs all doing each other from behind as painted on Attic vases c.500BC.

Bangkokian never look down on other provinces Bangkokian only look down on people who torch their own country because country belongs to everyone,

Do not used northern or central for politic gain as this moved will divide the whole nation .

You must be joking right.

Why Bangkokian, even students, call the poor people from the country names? (Dek/Kon Tan Jung Watt, Dek?Kon Ban Nok, etc?)

I don't know what Kon Tan Jung Watt means. But Kon Baan Nork is pretty obvious - country people? Hardly a degrading social status term, but rather a geographical/mindset one. It's nothing new that what's on the other side of the fence gets name called. Goes both ways, all over the world.

both sides are as bad as each other - the fundamental arguments are these, thaksin used populism policies to gain support - he probably doesn't care too much about the rural poor but uses them to further his own cause. in any case, those in the provinces get the attention they've never seen from the dems.

on the other side of the coin you have the dems and bkk elite families who have had decades to throw a few scraps to the provinces but their arrogance prevented them from doing so - 'they are just here to grow rice and clean our houses'. in favour of the dems, their intention is to quash thaksin, who has become a bit of a megalomaniac over the years (not that he's any worse than Suthep of course, both in dodgy land deals and causing trouble on the streets) but lets face it, who wouldn't like to see thaksin brought down a peg or two.

The dems could offer all the support in the world right now to the provinces but the people who live there know it'd only come for a few years before the arrogance returns and Bangkok turns the screws. at least with thaksin, they have hope.

when the unspeakable occurs - things will become even more complicated with a divide in family loyalties becoming less suppressed.

if you plan to continue living in Thailand for the next 10 years or even more, I'm sure you'll bear witness to some very interesting events.

Well it's a far easier place to live than your market town. --cows and a bottleneck for Mablethorpe.-used to referee their in Lincs league.

I think he meant khon tang changwat which is people from the provinces. Khon baan nok means people from out of town or upcountry. Khon baan nok is slighly condescending but khon tang changwat is not at all and can also refer to people from cities upcountry as well as country folk.

Anyway neither is insulting and not as bad as country bumpkin or peasant in English. Not much point in making judgements about linguistic discrimination like this if you can hardly speak a word of Thai.

we live in Udon

Udon is not the poor place that has nothing

but all the good things we have must be paid for by someone

No you only want those agreeing with you whether they are Thai or falang

You are supporting a group which is trying to deny the fundamental right of voting! It does not get any more undemocratic than that! The Yellows have had multiple opportunities to make their so called "reforms" recently, in 2006-2008 especially.

Only some arrogant and ignorant Bangkok expats continue supporting them for some selfish reason obviously. Some are even hoping for a military coup.

Keep on voting is the only way to get rid of corrupted politicians eventually. Military coups only hand power back to the same corrupted elite in Bangkok and nothing improves. The Reds are not much better but at least it is a small step forward.

This arrogant attitude of Thai Chinese minority is very dangerous. The idea it is their birthright is to rule over Thailand. It could turn against themselves if the angry Reds really started flooding to Bangkok. All that decades long hate just waiting to be released. It could turn very ugly and very fast. When Thais lose their cool, they really lose it in very bad way. I hope it does not come to that.

In 2010 it was very close of starting a civil war. Government buildings already were burning all over the place but for some unknown reason it did not escalate beyond that. This time we might not be so lucky.

Since when do chinese thais think that and <deleted> do you have to mention the fact that they are chinese thai when it's the nationality that matters. A chinese thai is still thai. So it's better if it's a thai thai instead?

Let's assume luk kreung became bkk's elite and are called farang thai. They look white but behave like thais (duh) would you take offence if someone said these arrogant luk kreungs aka farang thai are so arrogant. They should beware. You would instantly become offended by it but don't have a problem segregating thais with chinese ancestry.

Could this geriatric red wave eventually bring one of these two smart young ladies to power, if Yingluck is burnt out or red carded, Yaowapha too abrasive and untelegenic and their brother is too busy dealing with lines of customers at Voice TV and OK Advertising? They are cutting their teeth as savvy business entrepreneurs with a hi-so shoe shop at Siam Paragon just as Yingluck got the necessary experience to manage the family businesses at big bro's mobile phone shop. Just the people to know what elderly farmers want and lead the red wave in the future. Watch this space.

Sneer away, Doggy. But do remember that Margaret Thatcher who as PM dragged the UK back from the edge of despair was a mere shopkeepers daughter. Like YS, she was vilified by the misogynists, elitists and ex public-school idiots in power. However, the real people loved her and she won election after election.

Yes.....look at all the fantastic results of the military's last effort.

Even the military, belatedly, accepted that they did not do a good job of running the country. The difference now is that the fruits of their last adventure are ready for harvest and it is not a crop they want to pick.

Yes, literally speaking, Kon Baan Nok means people from out of town or upcountry. But for native Thais, the meaning IS condescending and insulting.

I live in issan, you can drive for miles and miles and see nothing but sugar cane, tapioca , rubber--eucalyptus - dumps and plastic bags, run down wooden shacks, tin outside wash houses and toilets-disgusting but they never change unless a farrang comes along and helps them improve.

.

At last the mask slips. You're one of that pathetic class of Farangs who despise the ordinary Thai people with their "...run down wooden shacks......tin wash houses......disgusting!". You spend your day on a Farang internet forum slagging them off while sneering at their living conditions from you air conditioned SUV. Now I understand why you want to take their votes away. Why do you live in such a disgusting country at all?

I mean, look at them. Obviously uneducated, probably unwashed too as they don't have jacuzzis or even hot water showers in their tin shacks. I'll bet they don't have 10 brain cells between the lot of them, and I'm being generous here. You want these lot to have the right to vote and decide which government will rule? To implement policies that will affect you and your future generations? Come on, even my dog is more intelligent............

While the above statement (mine) might be reasonable, the question is, is it right? Is it right, morally or ethically speaking, in this day and age, to deny someone as their voice, just because they were born into another society?

I do believe that I am cleverer than some. At the same time, there are others much more clever than I. If I expect the latter group to let my voice be heard, then I should extend the same to the former group.

Does anyone disagree with me?

Like YS, she was vilified by the misogynists, elitists and ex public-school idiots in power. However, the real people loved her and she won election after election.

Yes, but Margaret Thatcher was a lower middle class shopkeeper's daughter who got into Oxford to read chemistry and was good enough to land a job as a research chemist on graduation. She gave up chemistry and qualified as a barrister in less than three years without a degree in law which is remarkable. Many people didn't like her for her ghastly hats, her Saatchi & Saatchi grooming, her overbearing style and for adopting the airs and graces of the very high Tories who had looked down on her as lower middle class early in her political career. Finally she became too arrogant and blew herself up with the poll tax.

Politics and personal style aside Margaret Thatcher had few advantages from birth but had a mind like a steel trap. The Thaksin sprogs are silver spoon jobs who all seem to be air heads that apparently had learning difficulties and needed help and influence to get into university, while the son was caught cheating in his exams at Ramkhamhaeng after being bounced out of Thammasat for failing grades.

Thailand has already got Yingluck, who is not prone to intellectual giantism, as PM. If the Shinawatras are able to cling on to power indefinitely with the help of the red wave, it is inevitable that one of these or the son will eventually become PM. That is a real possibility. If so, God help us.

1. You say the real wealth of Thailand comes from Isaan rice fields. How many rice harvests per year does Isaan have?

2. Are you aware of the vast amount of quality rice grown in the rest of Thailand particularly the Central plains north of Bangkok, with 2 to 3 annual harvests?

3. Apparently other forms of agriculture contribute to Thailand's wealth as well as fishing and shrimp farms.

I've also heard that Thailand produces a few tons of chicken and pork for export.

4. I understand Thailand makes a few trucks and cars every year. As well as a thriving electronics industry.

5.According to TAT, tourism also adds a few baht to the national income as do the world famous ladies of Isaan.

So, your claim that the real wealth of Thailand comes from Isaan rice fields, is, IMHO, somewhat skewed.

As to Bangkok starving, I somehow doubt that, but unless the government, whenever we have one, gets their priorities right and pays the "growers of rice", I can see trouble in the countryside.

Perhaps the government ought to move to Khon Kaen?

If you live in Udon Thani you cannot fail to have noticed that the local people pay taxes. Those that earn enough, and there are plenty in Isaan, pay income tax. Everyone pays purchase taxes. Look at your electricity and water bills, your telephone bill, your receipt from the gas station and the stores where you do your shopping, the garage where you have your car serviced and the restaurants you dine in. There is purchase tax on them.

Have you noticed all the new housing developments being built in and around Udon? In the main it is local Thais who are buying them which means they must have a good income on which they are taxed. Or do you spend your time and money In Soi Samphan?

Guess what, most of the taxes the people of Isaan pay gets spent in the greater Bangkok area. What Thaksin did was to increase the amount of government expenditure outside of the greater Bangkok area, which had been neglected by successive governments for decades. Put another way, he reduced the amount the rest of the country pays in subsidies to Bangkok. It is still 74/26 in favour of the metropolis, but that is much better than before Thaksin.

64 years old...thats the reason..he does not want to die outside of thailand..as he gets older he will get more scared of this..

this is why his sister can not back off..THE FAMILY ,.big stakes to play for..

A Short history.

Once upon a time there was a country called Thailand.

The people lived in 3 regions: North East (Thai Isaan) North ( Thai Lanna) and south ( Thai Bangkok Phuket)

Like the former Yugoslavia these diverse groups got on quite well for a very long time.

But then a major commercial dispute arose which led to blood on the streets of Bangkok.

The leader of the nation came from Thai Lanna ( Thaksin) The Bangkok Phuket Thai took him to the courts on the basis of the fact that he was practising corruption as leader whereas the Thai Bangkok Phuket argued they had had the copyright rights on corruption since before Thaksin was even born.

These legal procedings went on for several years and people started to hate each other South to North. Then the hatred spread, Foreign expats who had married southern ladies started to hate foreign men who had married into Thai Isaan families.

Sadly the hatred spread and spread because no one in Thailand at that time had read the words of Nelson Mandela: "If I hate, I am no longer a free man"

In the meantime Thaksin was sentenced to jail for breach of the corruption copyright laws.

But he developed a cunning plan in leaving the country before the lock could be turned.

He never returned, he was no simpleton and had studied the history of the Philippines and knew when the highly charismatic Benigno Aquino returned from exile he was shot getting off the plane. to make sure he was really dead they shot him again. Thaksin knew all this. So he asked his sister to act as his agent.

Then a great leader arose in the south. He decided that the Thai Lanna and the Thai Isaan should not be allowed to vote. The reasons were that it would waste their time which should be better spent tending the rice crop. There was also a suggestion that he would command them to plough up the ricefield and plant palm trees.

Finally the people of Thai Isaan and Thai Lanna became bored, frustrated and angry. Rather than listen to speeches against them and their former leader they packed their bags and decided to start their own country. It was hard work at first but they thought it better to work hard than spend the time shooting at their neighbours. However luck was to arrive in the form of peace treaties and trade agreements with China which by then had become the world's economic superpower. Touriism, agriculture, casinos and industry flourished, seeing all this the Shan State of Mynamar seceded and together with the country of Laos formed the United States of North Thailand. The people were unified, prosperous and happy.

Some sort of Federalism might be a good idea with elections for provincial governors who form regional governments for the North, Northeast, Central, Southern and Bangkok regions. There would still be a national government that would be responsible for foreign affairs, defence and national security and there would be a federal budget. But regional and provincial governments would have their own budgets from tax raised locally. That would mean everyone would have still an equal vote but they would also have local, provincial and regional governments elected by them and accountable to them. Police forces would have to be accountable to elected officials in their regions. That way there would not be so much authoritarian power placed in the hands of a central government elected largely by people from the North, Northeast and Central regions to detriment of people in Bangkok and the South who didn't elect them. National, regional and provincial budgets would have to be fully transparent and open to scrutiiny. No more state secrets surrounding rice exports.

Firstly, Yingluck was no "mere" anything. She didn't rise up from nothing. She rose up on the back of a very wealthy brother. Without him, who would have ever heard of her?

Secondly, Thatcher was vilified because of her politics. Yingluck isn't vilified because of her politics, because she doesn't have any, much like the majority of Thai politicians. She is vilified because she is useless at her job.... again, much like the majority of Thai politicians.

Thirdly, saying that "real" people loved Thatcher suggests you think all the people who didn't love her were somehow "unreal". What a bizarre thing to say. And i suppose all those who don't love Yingluck are unreal too. Red style democracy. With us or against us. Vote for us and you'll be rewarded, don't vote for us and you are nothing. Nobodies.

sorry my friend you are the blind fool

How can you vote for democracy when their is only 1 party to vote for

todays vote is for democracy or dictatorship

when there is only one party in power it is a dictatorship not democracy

Please state what your right is to tell someone to leave Thailand, that right is held only by a Thai citizen

Well, who you want to blame now that there is only ONE party to vote for? Thaksin? It's the so called "Democrat" Party that refused to go to the poll. If they at least would have said to cast a "No Vote" it at least would show the real situation and would show how many would be against the Government (or YL or Thaksin). But now peoples names are hijacked and YL gets it all.

You want change - Vote for it, fight it in Parliamant and Senate selflessly without ambitions for your own self. That would make you credible.

have you never played chess

the democrates refuse to put up candidates Check

PTP decide we don't care we will hold an election on our own

Democrates have the vocal people behind them check

PTP allws thai people to be killed as long as the get their majority of votes and win the fals e election

the Democrates us the law to show ist was all against the consitution CHECK MATE

PTP GONE

New Elections

you heard it hear on Thai Visa, so don't complain when it happens

this is Thailand

Bend with the wind or go home

Posts like this really make me want to puke. So tell me..did Thaksin invent corruption and cronyism in Thailand ? I think not. You have such a simplistic and local view of the world...by your reconing, take Thaksin out of the equation and all will be nice and rosy in the LOS ? I am not a Thaksin lover, far from it. His emasculation of the judicial process, human rights record, abuse of power and process was in my opinion absolutely disgusting.... BUT... here is the point, you and others like you happily choose to ignore, where were the checks and balances that should have been in place in a functioning society to curb his excesses? Thailand and the Thais have no one to blame but themselves for this pathetic excuse of governance in a society which which gives respect to a Poo Yai ..irrespective as to how he gained his wealth, a society with no regard for the rule of law and thinks corruption is OK..so long as it does not go too far.

Thai democracy is in its infancy and, like all infants need care, encouragement and understanding to grow. Until the masses stand up and vote out of office the corrupt, then this sham will continue. Why have the Democrats not been able to win an election in yonks ?? Because they continually refuse to accept that they do not have the divine right to govern. What an arrogant bunch of hypocritical losers. If they were genuine, they would have changed their policies years ago to be inclusive of all Thais, not just the elite in Bangkok.

Many seem to be shouting war and trying to ignite one. All caused by one single person for greed and desire of greatness. 64 years old and gathered billions. Still it's not enough. How does he think he can return to Thailand and live? Become president of the north? It will not happen.
