BANGKOK, Feb 3 - The ruling Pheu Thai expected to get around 240 seats in yesterday's general elections, a party executive said today.

Sompong Amornvivat, Pheu Thai's election director, said the predicted 240 seats, plus or minus 10 seats, were from candidates' observations at polling stations.

The 240 seats are from constituency elections, with an additional 60 seats from party-list balloting, he said.

He said Pheu Thai candidates were instructed not to hold thank-you processions for voters until the elections results are officially announced.

Regarding elections in unsuccessful constituencies, Mr Sompong said the Election Commission will be asked if candidates are allowed to launch their campaigns for new elections.

Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva described yesterday's snap polls as useless, saying it was a regret that caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra wasted Bt3 billion for the nationwide election which fails to reach any resolution and creates more conflict in the country.

He said the Democrat Party will lodge a petition with the Constitution Court tomorrow to seek legal action against the caretaker prime minister and the government for violating the Constitution in their decision to hold the general election.

The party will also petition the National Anti-Corruption Commission to remove and take criminal action against the caretaker government, he said.

The Democrat leader said the caretaker prime minister and the government are obliged to find resolutions to the country now that they decided to go ahead with the trouble-plagued election.

Mr Abhisit called on the national police chief to urgently take action in several cases involving attacks on anti-government protesters which resulted in deaths and injuries. (MCOT online news)

Glad they can estimate their purchasing power and where their silly minion reside in higher numbers. Better go campaign there more and and offer up those sweet buzz words like money this and free that, before those villages start using wi fi/the net.

That will give them a clear majority and a return to power. Guess Suthep may have been wrong when he stated the majority supported him.

It is not sooo hard to win a majority if you run the elections without opposition.....The leader in North Korea also got reelected every couple of years. Honecker also won every election.

Another Thai news source has reported that the unofficial turnout yesterday was just 45.8%, which will no doubt lead some to conclude that at least 54.2% of eligible voters have rejected Pheu Thai.

Majority rule anyone?

why? it's low because the fascists stopped people voting

That explains about 10% of the vote given that voting proceeded ok at 90% of the polling stations.

If you check the other Thai news source, that shall not be named here, you can see that the figures only apply to the areas where voting went ahead.

So should the majority decision be respected?

Without opposition ??

Comparing yesterday to N.Korea and East Germany ???

Mentally ill.

Over 50 different parties and god knows how many individuals contested the election.

Only the dems ( I won't grace them with a capital D ) were successful in shooting themselves in the foot.

When the figures come out, you will find that somewhere between 10 to 15% of the voting base have had their right to vote obstructed by Suthep and his cohorts ( AV and co ) in the democrat (sic) party.

This is an unforgivable abuse of their position and they need to be charged and tried.

They could have exhorted people to use the "no vote" and made their point that way, but they did not, they CHOSE violence and intimidation.

I guess Sutheps threatened blockade on the Banks with have one notable exception.

SCB.

One thing that is very clear already based on the numbers released by the EC . . . Pheu Thai do NOT enjoy the support of the "majority" of people in Thailand.

.

One thing that is very clear is that Suthep does not even enjoy the support of 200 people. How's that big Bangkok Shutdown going these days?

It's funny how naive farangs were cheering the Dems boycotting the election, then supporting the yellow thugs in blocking the poll stations, ... and now complain that PT had no opposition in the same election

If the Dems did not want the PT to win, they obviously used the wrong tactic

Of course they win, as they practically elect themselves... and that means there will be a NEW election committee with Pheu Thai only members to ensure there'll be no more resistance in the Thaksinomics-system

They were at least 50 other parties contesting.
