webfact
Pheu Thai Party predicts winning 300 seats in yesterday's pollsBy Digital ContentBANGKOK, Feb 3 - The ruling Pheu Thai expected to get around 240 seats in yesterday's general elections, a party executive said today.Sompong Amornvivat, Pheu Thai's election director, said the predicted 240 seats, plus or minus 10 seats, were from candidates' observations at polling stations. The 240 seats are from constituency elections, with an additional 60 seats from party-list balloting, he said.He said Pheu Thai candidates were instructed not to hold thank-you processions for voters until the elections results are officially announced.Regarding elections in unsuccessful constituencies, Mr Sompong said the Election Commission will be asked if candidates are allowed to launch their campaigns for new elections.Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva described yesterday's snap polls as useless, saying it was a regret that caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra wasted Bt3 billion for the nationwide election which fails to reach any resolution and creates more conflict in the country. He said the Democrat Party will lodge a petition with the Constitution Court tomorrow to seek legal action against the caretaker prime minister and the government for violating the Constitution in their decision to hold the general election. The party will also petition the National Anti-Corruption Commission to remove and take criminal action against the caretaker government, he said. The Democrat leader said the caretaker prime minister and the government are obliged to find resolutions to the country now that they decided to go ahead with the trouble-plagued election.Mr Abhisit called on the national police chief to urgently take action in several cases involving attacks on anti-government protesters which resulted in deaths and injuries. fleeing
Another Thai news source has reported that the unofficial turnout yesterday was just 45.8%, which will no doubt lead some to conclude that at least 54.2% of eligible voters have rejected Pheu Thai. Majority rule anyone?

Popular Post bigbamboo
With no major opposition party PT should clean up. One positive to come out of this fiasco is that there may be some new blood entering the house from the smaller parties and who knows maybe we'll see Thailand's much needed 'hero in waiting' emerge to save the nation before it's too late. Hope springs eternal.

Sadly though he will probably get his way as the hopelessly biased judiciary will have to mop up for the Democrats/Ruling Elite after the failed demonstrations - just as they did in 2008.

Chuvit? Yes, but I believe we will see an awful lot of "no votes" and with an overall turnout so low 45%(ish), and legal wranglings over whether an Election should have taken place in the first place or not, this is far from being over.

The Government DID NOT have to have the election on 2nd February they could have held off for more discussions. They knew what would happen. They got warned many times by many different people AND YET DECIDED to go ahead.. similar to the catastrophic rice pledging scheme.

Without opposition ?? Comparing yesterday to N.Korea and East Germany ??? Mentally ill. Over 50 different parties and god knows how many individuals contested the election. Only the dems ( I won't grace them with a capital D ) were successful in shooting themselves in the foot. When the figures come out, you will find that somewhere between 10 to 15% of the voting base have had their right to vote obstructed by Suthep and his cohorts ( AV and co ) in the democrat (sic) party. This is an unforgivable abuse of their position and they need to be charged and tried. They could have exhorted people to use the "no vote" and made their point that way, but they did not, they CHOSE violence and intimidation. I guess Sutheps threatened blockade on the Banks with have one notable exception. SCB.
