Jet Ski Incident leads to arrest on Pattaya Beach

jet-ski-4.jpg
PATTAYA:--A Pattaya Jet Ski and Deckchair Operator was threatened with death on Monday Morning as he attempted to negotiate with a Thai man who had allegedly caused damage to a mirror on one of his Jet Ski’s.

Police were called to Pattaya Beach opposite the entrance to Soi 8 at 11am and detained three men, who were involved in a heated argument which led to a minor scuffle with Khun Supachai aged 49, the Jet Ski Operator.

He had rented one of his Jet Ski’s to Khun Nipon aged 31. The vehicle returned with damage to one of the mirrors which the operator wanted compensation for. Two friends of Khun Nipon became involved. Khun Amarin aged 25 and Khun Dilaert aged 30 were both intoxicated and together with Khun Nipon, warned the operator that they had close affiliations with the Pattaya Red Shirts and Khun Nipon then allegedly threatened to shoot the Operator if he did not drop the compensation claim.

The local lads couldn't be intimidated like the Indians, Iranians, Russians etc. so jet ski operator had to call his pals in brown, classic!

Step into my parlor said the spider to the fly.

Is this reporter new to Thailand? lolz

So clearly it is ok for jet-ski operators to use violence, both threatened and actual, on their customers but not the other way round!

I thought jetski operators only targeted farangs?

Jetskis have mirrors??

Strictly for picking nose hair.

Red Shirt again...drunken and armed...I know that nobody like "Jet ski operator", but this can happen to everybody, everytime...

Worked really well for the local lads, too, didn't it.

Maybe this time there was, ironically, actually some damage done to the jetski .Operator wouldn't try to scam his own kind, especially if they were, (reportedly),drunk .

Finally, since less Tourist are using the Jet Skis now they are turning on Thai's to make up the shortfall unfortunately for this scammer he choose a Red Shirt and we know how violent they get!!!

Not many Farangs around in Pattaya at the moment. These jet ski guys don't normally rent to locals. Sign of the times.

Jetskis have mirrors??

Of course, for parking backwards, and they trow in the parking guard with the whistle for free !!

interesting that they mentioned they know "red shirts".

Would be considered a threat or some kind of intimidation?

Are the red shirts known to be violent? whistling.gif

Is that why my "girlfriend" has stopped calling me. You could have fooled me.

wow - Is this the first time ever that a renter has threatened the jek ski operator? 555 karma at last !

"Operator wouldn't try to scam his own kind ..."

Everything in the farang world comes down to race, doesn't it? Whatever a Thai does, it's only motivation could possibly be racial exploitation.

It's always US versus THEM.

The bigoted world view on this forum colors every thread and every event, and ironically it's the bigots who can see nothing but bigotry projected onto everyone else.

Careful what you wish for. If their income stream dries up, they'll figure out a way to get it back- and probably from random tourists. And they have very few marketable skillsets- violence being about the only one.

Despicable as the jet ski extortion is, it's 100% avoidable.

Getting your head bashed for what's in your wallet isn't.

As an aside, it's interesting that the article didn't mention how much compensation was being demanded for the gold plated, diamond encrusted, one-of-a-kind, classic mirrors.

The story reads one way if it's 1000 baht, but completely differently if it's 50,000 baht.

Jetskis have mirrors??

My two jetskis back in Canada have mirrors so I suppose they do here as well. tongue.png

Certainly a variation on the usual scam.

the jetski boys are drug addicts, they regularly scam other Thais and they would happily scam their own mothers if they needed the money for drugs

A bullet seems the only way to stop the jet ski scammers anyway...

Mwahahaha unbelievable.... I suppose they asked waaaay too much for the mirror that was already damaged (but who's looking?) before the ride... and tried to threaten the guys...the usual jet ski scam. The other part of the story about threatening of the jet ski operator should be awarded with a medal, at last someone had guts to do this (a bit unfortunately though since they got arrested by police) the funny part is if u r being threatened by a drunk or high jet ski operator u pay money (biiiig money too ) if its the other way around U GO TO POLICE :) kindof unfare no ?

Best advice is. When in Thailand. Don't rent a Jet Ski!

warned the operator that they had close affiliations with the Pattaya Red Shirts

Must have been from out of town or the would have known the Jetski renters have close affiliations to the local BiB, and Maffia cheesy.gif

Sorry to disagree however Pattaya is presently full of foreigners. On Monday evening I walked from Royal Garden to down near Walking Street and walked back along Second Road, hundreds of foreigners including our usual assortment of Russian visitors.
