I have a few questions that I hope can be easily answered. Thank in advance for any help.

I am currently on a Multiple (3) Entry Tourist Visa issued from the USA. It will expire at the end of March (without a 30 day extension). I want to stay in Thailand for at least one year, so I am planning to get a Non-immigrant O visa and retirement extension. I think I know the steps, but I want to confirm that I am correct and know if I am missing anything.

1. Get notarized income statement paper from US embassy in BKK or outreach. ( I a over 50 years old and have income more than 65,000 baht per month) I must make an appointment with the embassy for this, if not outreach.

2. Get several recent photos.

3. Take these to Thai immigration and ask for Non-O visa and retirement extension.

I have several questions.

Do I need the income statement translated into Thai?

Do I need copies of my USA passport pages and do they need to be translated to Thai?

Will Thai immigration give me a Non-O visa? I am living in Thailand but not yet married to a Thai citizen (March marriage)

Can the process be done at any Thai immigration office such as Udon Thani or better to be done in BKK or Pattaya?

Do I need to fill out a TM 7 ?

Thanks for the help

English is fine for immigration so no translation of Embassy statement needed when in that language.

You will need copy of passport date page/visa/entry stamp/extensions and last arrival slip.

Immigration will provide a 90 day entry stamp of non immigrant O type for normal fee of 2,000 baht.

Most larger offices will do for retirement - if not Bangkok will.

First you fill out TM86/Tm87 depending of entry and then TM.7 for actual extension at additional fee of 1,900 baht - extension may require you wait 60 days and provide income/passport/photos again. Be sure to have some proof of where you are living.

Thank you for your answers.

I assume I can make my own copies of my passport pages. The arrival part of the arrival/departure card was taken by immigration at BKK when I got there. So are you talking about a copy of the departure part of the card?

If immigration requires me to wait 60 days and provide documents again, do I need to have two notarized copies of the income statement from the US embassy?

Will a receipt from my landlord for house rental and a copy of her Thai ID card and blue book suffice for proof of where I am living?

You will need to make copies yourself. It is the TM6 departure card.

You will need to do it in two steps. First the change of visa status ( TM86 ) then the extension. You would need two income affidavits.

Not sure Udon will do it.

If not it would be best to make a trip to the embassy in Vientiane to get a single entry non-o. This be better than possibly having to make 2 trips to Bangkok for the visa. They often give you a 15 day under consideration stamp before doing the visa stamp.

Thanks Joe:

I will go to Thai immigration in Udon Thani soon and ask them what they are willing / capable of doing, what procedures they want and what documentation is needed. I will report back to the forum and maybe the info will help somebody else.
