Thai logic, Nissan style. Or is that Nissan logic, Thai style?

As I am in the market for a sub compact car and am selling my truck, I am caught between two brands. Nissan Almera and Mitsu Attrage.

My first search was with Nissan, today.

I walked in and lucky for me I speak some Thai. Saleslady could not speak English. No problem.

I sat in a mid range Almera. I told her I was interested in the top of the line CVT. No hab. Ok, no problem. I am sitting in the new Almera? No hab. Last year's model.

Ah, I said. So you have promotion? Yes hab. Ok. What is it? 30000k discount on deposit. Wow. Great. I know Attrage has a 40k deposit discount.

How much is the top of the line Almera, old model? 622000, she said. I said, wait, the site, a few weeks ago, had it at 599k. She shut up.

So the 622k, minus the 30k, is the price now for the old Almera MORE than the 609k for the new top of the line Almera?

Yes, ka. She says. I tried to ask her about this logic. Raise the price of the old model, "discount" 30k and it is still higher in price than a NON discounted new Almera.

Chai ka. She says. Stupidly, I asked her why? Mai loo ka she says.

Nissan lost me. Thursday I will go to Mitsu. Car show this Sunday as well.

I presume that is Nissan on Thepkassatri? I presume that because that must be the worst dealership on Phuket of any brand.

There is a new showroom on Chao Fa West, no idea how that is run, but might be worth a visit.

Try taking a Thai speaker with you (or learn the language)... Highly likely she just couldn't be bothered trying to explain something to you that she was incapable of communicating, or you comprehending.

Also, in these tourist areas I'm sure they must get a fair amount of sex tourists tire kicking, or wanting to buy a car for the 24 hour long TGF that they rep knows from experience won't make it to 48 hours... and that would get old pretty quickly... Better to get you out of the showroom so she can pounce first on then next easy sale wink.png

Time is money, and time invested for no sale is wasted money. If it was me, I'd ask for the 30K service fee up-front, not just loaded onto the price :D

It was the new one on Chao Fa West.

I do speak Thai and was able to converse well. Even the wife called her after I got home because I was confused.

After the phone conversation, she was confused too!

Thanks, that means that if I buy something new it won't be a Nissan, simply abominal service on the island. I was hoping the Chao Fa one would be better.

This slow process of brand boycotting always has the same end result: Toyota or Honda , 555 :D :D

Just my lil input....my wife had excellent service at Nissan over the past 7 years she owned and still owns her Nissan Xtrail. At least the mechanics.

Probably there was never much wrong with the car to start with, but I could not say anything bad.....compared to FORD in Phuket, which I definitely felt was not up to scratch from their mechanics part....

Unfortunately I have seen quite often in pretty much all showrooms examples of rather inferior product knowledge.....the funniest always is, when asking how much power (HP) the car has....answer 1500cc! Yeah, baby....

In my case after a Nissan experiment it has resulted in Mazda. Excellent service here, and the BT50 is far from bland.

Who knows, if Honda persist with making ugly cars like the CR-V and boring cars like the Civic, perhaps Mazda can be the new Honda :P

Funny as hell. And you are right.

Only getting nibbles on my car ad, so wife suggested we go to Toyota Sure used cars place. (Phuket).

They wanted to offer only about 70% of the value of the truck. I knew that already, as it is typical of those joints.

But this dealership is where be bought the truck and the truck before.

So we are sitting in the car wondering where to go for a test drive. She remembered the car salesman from 5 years ago. So we drove.....50 metres. To the new car lot.

We sat down, looked at the Vios 1.5 j. The lower end of the Vios line. Auto, ac, ok stereo with a usb and aux plug, no gps, bluetooth 6.1 screen like the Mitsu Attrage. Same price, however.

They are now offering 30k down payment discount. Plus a Samsung Note 3. If you do not want the Note 3, they give you an additional 15k towards the deposit.

The difference between the Attrage and Vios is a lot. (In order of model) 1.2 versus 1.5, top of the line versus bottom, 6.1 screen handsfree vs. only cd usb aux. 2 color interior vs. one ugly black one.

What may be the selling point is the resale value. The Attrage, being a new model, has no history. Toyota anything does and it is higher than most models, along with Honda.

The salesman is avoiding the Sure place and he his finding a buyer for the car. Albeit a little higher than what we were offered. But better for us.

Now off to Attrage for a test drive... Sorry NISSAN!!!!!

IMHO....The CRV Ugly ?, tut ,tut, it looks just the same as any BLOBY truck type {Porche} ride to Me .biggrin.png . Yes the Mazda 3 will hurt the Civic sales,if we don't get a watered down version here, i'll get one next for a change.coffee1.gif
