Third party for motorbike

As the renewal of the 3rd party insurance for my big bike was due, I had a closer look at the policy, and noticed that there was no medical expense coverage for the passenger.

The policy is from AIG . Upon inquiring with my broker, the best they could come up with was 50.000 Baht medical expense for the passenger from AXA and some other Thai company, but that would at once more than double my premium as I could not transfer the no claim bonus i have earned over the years.

Is that correct ?

However the increase from 1280 Baht to almost 3000 Baht premium is not the big issue, 50.000 Baht would cover about a plaster and some cream at any half decent hospital. I notice that 3rd party insurance for cars include 500.000 Baht medical expense for passengers, so why not the same with a bike ?

Is 50.000 Baht really the best that is available or does someone have knowledge about better offers .

Because of the risk assessment done by the insurance company.

So how about raising the coverage and the premium in accordance ?

Also don't understand why my no claim bonus not can be transferred to a new company.

I remember when I first insured a car in Thailand, they accepted my no claim bonus from Europe.

You may be surprised to find that even on 1st class

motorcycle policies the coverage is the same.

I pay roughly 9k a year for 1st class on my 250

& it is 50k medical for driver & 50k for passenger

What you need to do is go buy an additional accident policy that covers

motorcycle accidents

PS: you can buy a PA ( personal accident policy )

for anywhere from 610 baht a year which gives 20k motorcycle accident coverage

to 2400 baht a year for 100k coverage

Look at section two of this chart translated from Bangkok Insurance

Boy I never considered that a possibility

I have not bought this but now you make me wonder smile.png

I assumed the coverage was the same for all three so they wrote it once

Otherwise it wouldn't be a personal accident policy just a death benefit policy

But TIT so good to ask

You're probably right about this, as on closer look the quote seems to be in the middle of the frame.

But yet that would cover the rider, but my biggest concern is about having the passenger covered, as that can be someone different each time, and you can't expect that everyone has a personal accident insurance.

Also is it very unlikely that the passenger is the cause of an accident, so the rider should be in a possibility to provide insurance coverage for the passenger.

That is true but at the same time folks here especially need to take care of themselves

If riding a bike as a passenger a PA policy may be a cheap thing in the long run.

Of course they can always hope the person hitting them even as a passenger has at least the mandatory 3rd party

if they are deemed at fault.

I am sure as you want a insurance company somewhere will provide higher limits for a passenger on your policy

but I bet it is going to cost. Just the nature of the beast here with so many on scooters/motorcycles

the insurance companies probably have some claims daily.

But even I need to take my own advice & get more as I said my 1st class only provided 50k each.

Yet costs me 9k a year
