Red Shirts to gather in Nakhon Ratchasima

the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), whom she said is defying law enforcement leading to deaths and injuries.

The red shirts know all about that.

Of course they do. They suffered over 80 deaths in 2010 due to abhisits version of law enforcement.

So what's your point?

My point is that they know all about defying the law and what it leads to. It seems that the PTP have decided to use Abhisit's version of law enforcement too.

Sent from my phone ...

There is no comparison with the PTP's sending police to the rally sites and abhisit using the army for crowd control, then authorisng the use of live ammunition, then signing orders to authorise the use of snipers and live fire zones.

None whatsoever.

Don't be so ridiculous.

There is a reason why abhisit and suthep are charged with murder, and it's not political.

Booming global economy???

You are kidding right?

No. I'm not kidding. When Thaksin was in power, there was a booming global economy. That's why I'm wondering what Yingluck has done while the global economy is crap. The Thai economy doesn't appear to be doing so well at the moment (before the protests started).Sent from my phone ...

The 2000's have seen some of the most difficult economic challenges in history, culminating in deep recession in 2007,

some might go as far as say an economic depression. Luckily for Thailand policies from the previous administration has created an environment that insulated Thailand from such events.

Such economic policies and treaties, placed Thailand in a position of straight, poised to become a manufacturing and economic powerhouse, and the Detroit of the east.

The future was bright.

If there are any dark clouds in the development of the Thai economy, they are in my opinion the opposition protests and mr suthep, who are hellbend in derailing the whole process and setting Thailand back 20 years.Allowing other regional economies to fill the void.

The Detroit of the East, you say. Hmmm. Detroit is a crumbling, bankrupt trash heap. It's government has been one set of corrupt thieves looting the treasury after another. Hey, maybe you're on to something after all!

Did you miss the pictures of snipers and armed police wandering around with police at Pan Fah bridge? Maybe the use of live ammunition and snipers wasn't authorised by the government this time round and there are just some rouge law enforcement types helping them out.

Hang on a minute. That's outright dishonest on your behalf. How many times people need to refresh your memory about the events in 2010? Not to mention shameless attack on ASEAN summit in 2009 by violent red mob endangering lives of politicians from other foreign countries. Get some perspective, will you?

Thailand’s 2010 Red Shirt Protests and the Government Crackdown

May 3, 2011

This report provides the most detailed account yet of violence and human rights abuses by both sides during and after massive protests in Bangkok and other parts of Thailand in 2010. The report is based on 94 interviews with victims, witnesses, protesters, academics, journalists, lawyers, human rights defenders, parliament members, government officials, security personnel, police, and those who directly took part in various stages of the violence from both the government and the protester sides. It documents deadly attacks by government security forces on protesters in key incidents and details abuses by armed elements, known as “Black Shirts,” associated with the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD). The report also explains the background to the political crisis that led to the protests and continues to the present.

I certainly missed the snipers actively firing at civilians at Pan Fah Bridge.

There's a world of difference between wandering around with the police and actively firing on people under orders from Yingluck.

Of course you already knew that but will come up with anything to try and justify your ridiculous stance comparing abhisits murderous antics with the present situation.

Is it policy on here to call me a liar if I write something you don't want to hear? It seems as though flaming is tolerated on this forum if you argue from a particular point of view.

Care to point out what relevance the hrw report has with my alleged "lying".

If you can't back up your personal attack, go forth and multiply.

I wonder if Tida and the rest of the Communists intend to return to the jungle and start a Khmer Rouge type insurrection like they did before.

Your statement is a simplistic attempt to raise the bogeyman of "commies". It is 2014, not 1950 and Senator Joe McCarthy the master of manipulation drank himself to death long ago.

Professor Thavornseth was an accomplished microbiologist and had a career on the rise until she made the sacrifice to join the pro-democracy uprising in 1973. It was that uprising that ended the brutal military dictatorship that had ruled Thailand with an iron fist. Subsequent to the 1976 massacre of students at Thammasat University and the reinstallation of the military dictatorship, her name was put on a target list for execution by the death squads that were roaming Thailand at the time killing the opponents of the military dictatorship. Yes, she fled to the jungle and the only group to offer her protection and support were the communists. She had no other option. It was flee or end up raped and dead in a field. She hid out for 6 years enduring hardship and suffering, all because she believed in democracy. She was non violent and it has never ever been alleged that she engaged in any acts of violence. She is the one UDD leader who has remained firm in her belief in non violence.

So, after all the huffing and puffing in your post, you admit (can't well deny it, of course, because it is history), that these UDDers were part of a Communist insurrection to overthrow the form of Thai government. Yea, Khmer Rouge, just a bunch of "bogeymen" engaged in genocide.

Last September when the body of Laud Chin Peng the former leader of the Communist Party of Malaysia, and a man who had fought against Thailand, was laid out in the prestigious Bangkok Wat That Thong, there were multiple dignitaries who came to pay their respects.

Thai military generals praised the man, and the Pricess Chulabhorn Walailak sent a wreath of precious orchids. There is both a lesson to be learned, and a dose of reality to be gained from that event. The Thai people who understood the politics of the era, who lived it, have a different view than the McCarthy era black and white view that you espouse.

The vilification of Thai "communists" was in large part caused by the USA. It started with the first payment of $10 million to Thailand following its recognition of the horrific Bao Dai government in French occupied Vietnam, and was sent on its way by the despot Phibun as Thailand was rewarded richly every time it did something "anti communist". Rather, than me giving you a lengthy history of Thailand and how U.S. money influenced Thai politics, why don't you study the subject yourself? In fairness to the USA, that is the way the world worked back then.

Uncle Joe Stalin was the darling of the USA for several years. Josip Tito was quite popular with the west. Fidel Castro remains quite popular with many EU countries and Canada . Vietnam's communist leaders are now the new love interest of the USA. In every era, friends become enemies, and enemies friends when it is politically expedient. The salient take away point is that the politics of 1970's Thailand and its repressive military dictatorship, pushed many people into the welcoming arms of communism because the communists were the only group willing to take on the brutal military dictatorship.

And btw, the Thai communists were not affiliated with the Khmer Rouge. It was the Thai government, which was ruled by the a military dictatorship, that made obscene profits by allowing the Khmer Rouge to resupply through Thailand. At the height of the Cambodian genocide, what was Thailand's response to the refugees from Cambodia? After the communist Vietnamese invaded Cambodia to end the genocide, where did the Khmer Rouge take refuge? Who were the Thai PM's during the decade that the Khmer Rouge fought their war against the freed Cambodians and the Vietnamese liberators? How did the Khmer Rouge manage to resupply from 1978 to 1995? Go and look at who was running Thailand during that period.

UDD report card shows responsibility for over 90 dead during the brutal terrorist uprising

Please show proof where it states that red shirts are responsible for over 90 dead, as I am not aware of any court convictions.

Otherwise I will report this post as rumor mongering and spreading false facts is against the forum rules.

Thank you.

So Abhisit and Suthep aren't responsible either. Who is?

When I last checked, Abhisit and Suthep are charged with murder.

Where is this meeting being held? I do not want to go there but would like to know the areas to avoid

Hello All, I haven't found out either, but the RS have met at Pakchong, at the

Bonanza Resort before, as the owner is a supporter.

There's a big OTOP type fair downtown, and the stage is still set up at Ya Mo

as it has been since the start of the anti gov protest.

Most of the Korat people I know are NOT red shirts. Maybe it's the company I keep. Their holding meetings there gives the wrong impression that it's red country.

I do not know if most of the Korat people are red shirts or not, what I do know is that the vast majority of the Korat people, Issan people and Thais outside of Bangkok in general are fed up with sutheps fascist nonsense and want to see him and his hooligans run out of Bangkok and get their capitol back to what passes for normal smile.png

In late 2009, months before the red shirts descended on Bangkok, the offical monthly redshirt magazine ran a four page article on Lenin with big full-page photo of the man himself, which had all the communist blurb held up on a pillar as if it were sacred. I remember seeing it back then and getting that "sinking feeling."

I don't think they are all communists at all, I don't think half of them understand what happens to everyone except the very highest members in communism. But some of the red-shirt leadership definitely have real communist leanings.

I think the appeal of those articles was more to do with what happened to the Romanovs than about Communism.

UDD leaders Tida Thavornset, Nattawut Saikua, Jatuporn Prompan, Korkaew Pikulthong, Weng Tojirakarn, and Yoswaris Chuklom announced at a news conference that the upcoming gathering will focus on strategies to deal with the ongoing political situation and how to manage a national reform in several dimensions.

What a deluded group of people, imagining themselves as managing a national reform in the future.

And not one of them has ever been elected to anything, it would be an unelected council managing national reform, fancy that!

Those very same peace loving communists that you describe kidnapped one of my Thai uncles in the mid 70's, and held him for ransom for four months in the jungle.

When he was finally released after a hefty ransom being paid he was near death from malaria & infection from torture/maltreatment.

He has never been able to father any children.

Despite your assertions about Miss Thanvornseth, I think the traditions of violence to meet an end has clearly passed from the commies to the Reds.

You're entitled to your opinion, but it's not the commies/reds who have repeatedly throughout Thai history sent the army in to slaughter it's citizens.

I forgot, last time the RS met in Korat, they met at the stadium where the SEA Games

were held, out on the way to the Korat Zoo.

The last time the RS(200) marched in town to confront the anti-government protesters

(800), the RS retreated, this was a few weeks back.

The courts said you're allowed to protest without consequence. I hope to see them soon in Bangkok. It's the only way that the Sino-Thais will take them seriously and respect their political rights.

Rightly or wrongly, rural people see this as another coup executed by the Sino-Thai elite who want to install a government that will enrich them even more at the expense of rural Thais. That's the perception and it's a perception held by rural Thais for good reason.

Don't forget, the elected leader of this country is a Sino-Thai as are many others in the now caretaker government (family members ect.). These people were voted in by the rural folks so I don't think breaking the political picture down into racist factions is a reflection of the perception of the rural Thais.

I feel a change in feel this week. They have weathered the absolute worst that the courts and media could do and still the mob is dwindling.

Everybody must now ensure she does not resign and this is done on FB twitter and through rallies. With an electoral mandate, she has to defend the democratic system against the coup.

There is no other way, nobody will accept a coup and it must be fought off at all levels before anybody decides to try it on.

I imagine there is diplomatic language in there that ensures she knows she has international backing. Whilst they won't fan Sutheps flames for him, the embassies and UN will be very concerned with the direction of the country this year.

I hope they protest and block the Courts now. They have allowed this to continue and maybe not long before we see farmers blockading the law courts. If this is how they want Gov to be blocked, the PT should de-tooth them.... Not like they going to phone the police to have them cleared away is it!!!

Remains to be seen, in this story with more plots and plot makers than you can barely keep up with, whether the week coming is the one that marks a change for the government and the Prime Minister and a grinding reversal of fortunes for the coup plotters, but that said....

YOUR MOUTH TO GOD'S EAR!

well after last night we know what they planned anyway, thida and her crap at her best.

And where is GK? After assuring us all that the UDDers were just social democrats who abjured violence. From Orwell to Koestler to Konrad, the world has been told time and time again how Red terror operates. But there will always be the apologists, the charlatans who try to pass themselves off as message board intellectuals or an electronic Graham Greene, those who pose and preen and pretend to have secret insights unknown to anyone but themselves and who receive their information based upon their supposed social status or "friends in high places."
