Ubon Hash House Harriers - Venue (Meuang Ubon environs) - 4:00pm Saturday 1st March

I have not checked out my planned run yet, but here is advance notice that the next Ubon H3 'run' will take place on Saturday 1st March.

Pick-up at 3:40pm from N-Joy bar or meet at run site (details to be posted here within next 36 hours) at 4.00pm.

Everyone welcome, runners, walkers (we mostly have that variety - you don't have to be fit!). The idea is to follow a trail of chalk dust or something similar - walkers typically do 5 kilometres or less - with pleasant company, then have a few beers and generally socialise. First time hashers ("virgins") are especially welcome and the cost for you is an absolute bargain. More details below.

Directions: Meet at N-Joy bar on Saturday 1st March if you want a lift to the 'run' site (or a preprandial beer). We leave N-Joy at 3:40pm prompt. N-Joy, it is at the far western end of Palochai Road beyond the City Tohsang Hotel and beyond Ubon prison. Run-site details to follow.

Hashing is social 'running' and there have been hash clubs all over the world since its 1930s origins in Kuala Lumpur. The running bit is not taken too seriously and beer is drunk to oil the social side. Ubon Hash, in line with the Ubon environment is laid back and only a few enthusiasts put in a few spurts of running. The rest walk. A trail is laid, typically in white flour/chalk and the pack must find the trail, which keeps the front runners busy while the walkers catch up. After the run the beer ice-boxes are opened and the socialising begins. We usually go back for some more beer and maybe some food around town in the early evening, and some more beer later in the evening, but that is entirely optional on your part! Although hashing has been described as a 'beer drinking club with a running problem' you will find that we are not drunken lunatics and quite sociable really!

Don't be a stay at home wuss - get out there with us and discover the sides of Ubon you would not normally uncover. It's dead cheap (100B) for your first outing and inexpensive (250B) thereafter; even cheaper for Thais and cheaper again for under 17s - and the fee includes several free beers afterwards, and often a beer stop during the run.

Run 67 - Saturday 1st March - River Moon South Side, West of Warin, Inside Ring Road

OK - the run location start is mapped in the attached Word document.

Another little known (and new to us I think) location. Run 66 was about local brick-works and the river. This run is about local BBQ pot-making ... and the river!

There will be a beer stop, there will be a circle (either on or near the run or back at N-Joy). There may be some free snack food back at N-Joy depending on numbers. There will be afters in town for those wishing to partake!

Go to N-Joy Bar (directions in first post) for 3:30pm or the Run Site for 4pm

Directions to the Run Site:

Go south down the Ring Road on the Western side of Ubon past Central Plaza and Home Hub and over the River Moon (main) Ring Road bridge. Once over the bridge you will notice a small "Firestone" tyre depot on your left after about 150 metres. Turn first left after another 150 metres. It's a reasonably obvious side road with a collection of sign boards in Thai at the turn. Proceed due east along this road. After 0.9 kilometres you will pass a long thin watercourse on your right. Immediately park up on the left just past the watercourse.

Hope the "virgins" will lose their virginity and become full members. Not too drunk, but full members, roughly speaking.

Should you do that again on a weekday, I'd be more than happy to join in and test my artificial knee joint's capacity.-

I suspect we will do a run in Meuang SiSaket sometime this year Sirchai, so maybe you can give the joints a try then. We normally run only on a Saturday afternoon, usually first Saturday of the month. There are a few Sisaket hashers lurking around in the undergrowth who keep threatening to join in and I know that Frank will be happy to have us back at LITP.

Good to see you back from Oz, Sandgroper. You've chosen a good run to return on - nice trail with a fair bit of off road (Jay might even get lost if he's unlucky) and an interesting pottery village plus loads of river views of the mighty Mun River that you don't normally see.

Hey, Sandgroper, glad to see you're home. I won't be there as I'm in the humidity of Florida. Maybe you could get your "missus" to suggest my "missus" joins in for a few hours without my kids ... it'll do her good!!
