Things I've done as a tourist, that I would never do now...

Many years ago, first time in Pattaya, hot day, lunchtime. With my wife walk into a bar on 2nd road. Fortunately it wasn't busy. I see the bell over the bar, and before she could stop me, I ring it and ask my wife - what's this for ? - a few happy customers.

Sitting in a bar in Subic Bay with an Engine Order Telegraph in front of me. Out of habit I play around and ring up Full Ahead, also rang up a nice bar tab.

Being a non drinker who does not frequent bars, I did not know what the bell is for. I thought maybe it meant closing time.
