Air guns

3rd Rd opposite the sports arena there's an Airsoft shop. Try there. If "no-have" they can advise you I would guess.

Thanks for that. I'll give them a try. Regarding the legality of metal pellets, and even farangs owning an air-gun, the law seems to be a bit muddy to say the least. I'll get the 'Trouble and strife' to try and buy them for me. By the way, as metal pellets may be illegal is there an alternative? Please don't say a catapult. My boy has one and both that and the air-gun are used for target shooting. 'No animals will be harmed by this requestclap2.gif

I know where they are sold in Udon. Illegal or not, they have them.

Even sell you a rifle to shoot them.

It's in a big shopping center so I doubt the illegal theory.

Porn, pirated DVDs, switchblade knives, and fake viagra are all illegal, yet you can buy them in many big shopping centers.

I have checked carefully, and metal projectiles are illegal in air guns in Thailand, even according to the guys that sell them with a smile, while they amp up the velocity of your airgun, also to illegal levels (for money, of course).

The question then becomes, what are the consequences if the gendarme take an interest in you- because you haven't paid the protection money your smiling supplier has.

Hi. Probably a naïve or stupid question, but what is the difference

between pistols we find at about 5'000 baht on this site

and "similar" pistols we find at about 500 baht on Thai markets ?

Both seems to use same white plastic pellets and gas bottle ?...

It seems to be a function of whether the gun was made in China, Taiwan, Japan or elsewhere. But that's just a guess from looking at the boxes and prices in quite a few shops in several areas of BKK. Not scientific at all...

The familiar air guns on offer in Thailand seem to be about 3x the price of the identical model priced out at Cabela's, Bass Pro and other stateside interweb shops. And a lot of the model numbers aren't available at all- leading me to believe there's a lot of stale stock here in Thailand- discontinued models, and very few of the current models. Or perhaps they're just fakes, with no attempt to match the model numbers.

Just for grins, I checked out a few real gun shops in BKK and found the handgun prices to be 3-5x the price of the same gun in the USA. But that's a whole 'nother topic.

Seems like we have struck lucky! The ones they had were not the correct size. Got to call back next week. Thanks for the tipsmile.png

The best one to get are made in Japan as you can buy them in toy shops there and the quality is good. I have 2 one is gas powered and the other is electric. Gas is better. I picked the gas one up in papong markets with gas and 2000 bb's for 3500baht. The electric I got in Japan and took back to OZ but the charger needs to be changed as Japan is 100v ac. An alternitive to the plastic bb"s is a 6mm stainless ball bearing.

And about USA: luckily not everybody is authorised to have a gun in Thailand smile.png

Does that make a difference in reality ?

In my mind, and I'm not American, I think the main effective difference is that in the States a householder has the legal right to shoot dead an intruder they discover in their house, which I agree with personally.

Although not relevant to this thread, in the UK if we are deemed to show excessive force to an intruder then we will be the ones to possibly go to jail.
