I wanted to connect through an Android box to my 61" HDTV set but from the sounds of it the picture would be terrible, can anyone confirm the picture quality on Thai Expat onto a big screen?

Picture and sound quality has improved significantly (especially the sound) since the previous discussion took place.

Whilst they dont stream in HD they do seem to use UK HD signals as a source, at least for the BBC channels. These channels look quite a bit better than the ones that come from an SD source and, for the programmes I watch, the overall quality is acceptable on a 55in screen. Caveat: I dont watch sport and I view via my PC and an HDMI lead, not via an Android box. Sport, with its fast movements, may pose a problem.

You are right, fast movement, like football, can be a problem.

I've watched UKTV on 2 computers, one of them (which I now use all the time) is just about ok for watching football etc but the other one was awful, I was told that it was because the spec for that PC was too low, so if you plan to watch the world cup try to get a decent spec PC. I've also found that UKTV/THAI EXPAT TV is better quality than sport365.

For normal programming I find either spot on, on either PC.

Thanks guys, I have just signed up for the free trial and will check it out. Another question is I have multiple PC's and Tv's and was wondering if the subscription allows viewing on more than one pc or if a subscription for each PC would be needed ?

With Thai Expat/UKTV 2 computers is fine, with 365 I think it is allowed but when I tried opening the software on a different PC it sometimes wouldn't let me telling me something like I have recently opened the software on another PC.

Like I said, Thaiexpat/UKTV is overall better than 365Sport, certainly in my experience anyway.

I use a service from Spain they provide a small Iptv box which gives you the whole of uk frees at plus all of sky tv and about 200 on demand movies which is updated every month and also a few hard core porn channels. The box was really expensive at 22,000 baht but it works well on my 3bb connection and watching it on my 50 inch tv it looks great. Also on the box is racing uk and I know the uk subscription to that station is nearly 13,000 baht alone. I would recommend it but as I said expensive!

Do not think external links are allowed but they have a rep in Thailand. Many times they can give a demo in your own home or leave it with you for 24 hours to try. I will pm the site address and his thai agent phone number to you.

Expat TV working fine last night until about 9pm then just froze. Logged out a few times with the same problem on all channels and programs. Shutdown computer and restarted but same issue, also 365SportsTV has same problem when trying to watch world cup lat night. Today same problem. Program starts then freezes and begins buffering, Even after buffer reaching 20 mins program is still frozen. Even when the program starts at the beginning there is no sound.

Internet connection can be the issue as I can stream movies live on my computer last night and today without any delay.

Anyone else having similar problems?

Yes, I had a problem with Thai Expat TV yesterday, it just wasn't buffering at all. I contacted them and got an e-mail recommending I unplug the router, plug it back in, then restart the computer, and it actually worked, though the download and buffer weren't as high as I'd been used to, it did the job. Watched the England match on 365sport. On 60 minutes, the program just closed. Started it up again and had no problem the rest of the match. This used to happen quite often during the EPL season..very annoying, hope they sort it out or I'll be taking my custom elsewhere.

Still having problems and they're trying to blame it on my network and ISP. They even sent me a link to install Thai Expat TV as I have the UKTV platform and the subscription doesn't end until December. The Thai Expat link didn't work as every time I click on a channel, the program closes and it returns to the desktop! Waiting for a reply, though they'll probably still blame it on the network. Had no problems until the World Cup started....coincidence ?

I've had problems with the UKTV platform too the last few days.

They always play that card, ie blaming it on your network, PC, etc, the guy even suggested to me to uninstall my anti virus?? I just laughed that one of and had to bite my lip with that one, if it has always worked fine before ow how can it possibly be that the anti virus in now a problem? very strange logic, it can neve be there fault of course. I was also advised to download the new software too but told them I didn't want to do this and wanted to keep the old one as eveyone knows it is better.

By the way, if you do endup switching over it doesn't matter if you are paid up until December as they will honour that even if you switch over.

Pat, thanks for that. I've just had an e-mail asking me to do exactly what they said yesterday, unplug router, plug back in, and restart computer. I'll tell them I've done it and still have a problem. See what happens. Agree with you, the UKTV platform is much better.

Incredible technical advise isn't it. Just keep on to them until you get it fixed. To be fair, I think thecustomer service is good in the respect that always they reply quickly and are always polite etc, but as said earlier they seem to be very reluctant to actually accept it may be a problem at their end.

^ IMHO it also could be a problem because of the change ?

With the UKTV I never ever have a problem but with the Expat one, more then once.

UKTV program is better for recording but the Expat is better (again imho) for occasional watching and searching

Edit: // Added Ps

Ps: Ooooh I forgot, NO I don't work for either UKTV or Expat TV or any other company (this just in case)

I use the UKTV app on my two Android boxes. They never buffer and the programs stream great but the voice is always slightly out of sync with the picture.

Anyone else have that problem?

Posted

No, I don't use the boxes, but I wouldn't be happy with that. Contact them. I'm subscribed 'til December, everything's been great since the Thai Expat merge until the past week, so if the no buffer problem doesn't improve, I'll find an alternative.

I got an email from the yesterday they are adding quite a lot of new channels including CNBC, only a little extra than what we currently pay, maybe that's the reason, although my UKTV software seems to be ok.

I haven't read through the whole thread, so apologies if this has been mentioned already, but the Add-On that you recommend has been removed by it's 'Author' according to Mozilla/Firefox.

I have tried 'Hola' but it seems a little patchy, to say the least.

You are lucky that it works for you, I think a lot of people who are on crappy internet (in hotels or condos or wherever) are more then willing to pay the 600 Thb to have a good viewing experience.

Your solution doesn't work for everyone !

Ps: That picture I saw before in a topic about televisions (that isn't from yesterdays Top Gear thumbsup.gif

* picture for illustration purposes only....

incidentially you keep harping on about ex pat TV so much, you're begining to sound the "boy that cried woolf" - and you know what happened in the end....

Are you on their payrole / connected to them in someway - or is it that you've got <deleted> all going on with your life, so are on here all the time ??

A little bit harsh--no?
