Total rubbish! There are many provinces in the North who never had a majority for Thaksin, so how do they want to set up a democratic Lanna Republic! Right now most people in the North do want a change in government. So maybe he is talking about the Republic of Phayao, though even there I believe that reds are in the minority right now. The reds in Northern Thailand are more than that, but maybe you haven't noticed. In Chiang Mai, Rai, Phayao and Udon they side with the police and local mafia and intimidate and threaten everyone that oppose them! People are genuinely scared of the fanatic reds!

Vat all flows to bangkok. Profit for nationwide companies such as 711, and shopping centres and most hotels flows to bangkok.

Rayong should he awash with cash from all the oil companies much like texas. Nothing of the sort. I suggest that Rayong is subsiding the whole country.

Bangkok is shown to be disproportionately wealthy because every provincial.company of a size pays all its tax and does all its invoicing in Bangkok. Local regional entitities should be allows to levy a tax and it he discounted against national income tax.

A bit like a split between federal and state taxes in the USA. This would give the provinces some autonomy and independence from Bangkok.

Well, as maybe, but the structure of allowing a level of local taxation and a level of national/federal taxation should be implemented here. The split is inequitable and puts too much power in the national politicians in Bankokg

The next biggest money earner for Thailand is probably rice exports, and we've been hearing how that sector has tanked.

Australia manages pretty well with seven federal states, one federal capital and a distant Monarch as head of state

Thailand would not do worse with devolved powers for Isaan, the North, Central and South and maybe South East, with foreign policy and central government provided by Bangkok.

Capital and labour would flow to the states with the cleanest government, lowest taxes, and best practices.

Even small countries such as Switzerland with three languages is a federation. The UK similarly recognises the regional differences between England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Australia was separate colonies of England that decided to join together, not a single country that decided to split apart. How well did Queensland's suggestion of succession go 20 or 30 years ago?

The same is true of the UK too of course - separate kingdoms: Ireland (now NI), Scotland, England and Wales. All separate countries - and still are, but under the United Kingdom banner. This was brought about by wars, marriages and external conquerors (Roman's joined together hundreds of kingdoms to form Britannia - including Wales back then and parts of southern Scotland). Mary Queen of Scot's grandfather, King James IV of Scotland was married to Margret Tudor, daughter of Henry VII of England. Elizabeth and Mary called each other cousin. In 1603 James VI of Scotland also became the king of England. Scotland had its own parliament until 1707 (Acts of Union), then on joining to become the UK, cessed power to London. Devolution just gave back some powers by cessing certain powers back to Edinburgh via a devolved parliament. Wales is more complex (National Assembly), and has fewer powers (and Labour controls the parliament - like Scotland - but have been dreadful, especially wrt NHS in Wales!)
