I want to send a collection of personal effects overseas, and have been investigating the different methods available, and their costs.

First, one can arrange for a shipping agent to do it for you. Stein A. Krakholm from United Relocations handled my incoming shipment five years ago, and did an exceptional job. I'll recommend him highly. And in trying to accommodate my outgoing shipment, he has worked very hard to tell me the ins and outs of shipping.

After investigating the options, I've figured that that isn't the best way for me, but I'd recommend anyone who's considering shipments to contact Stein.

Note that most of the information from Thai Post can be found in English using the language choice button.

Using Thai Post, one can send an EMS World One Price Box anywhere for 1,400 baht, maximum 15 kg. But the size of the box is limited to 35cm X 22 cm X 14 cm.

There is the Logis Post World system, similar to the one we can use domestically shipping big items such as motorbikes around Thailand. Unfortunately, it works only by air and can be a bit expensive, but obviously quick, and they will take shipments up to 200 kg.

The price tables are in Thai only, but easy enough to figure out. The first table is for the outgoing shipment, indicating the price for ranges of weights, and one only needs to calculate. The second table is for return if required, and when arranging the service, one indicates if return might be required, or the shipment could be handled otherwise.

The attachment is the two page table. For example, sending a 160 kg shipment to Australia would cost 27,200 baht. Apparently it should be packed at the post office so they can check the contents do not break their regulations.

The basic method, which I'll use, involves ordinary Thai Post International Surface mail. The rates can be calculated here.

The different boxes available are here, and here for a different style box.

So, using the Carton #4 (100cm X 55cm X 55cm) I can pack 30 kg into that and send it to Canada for 4,610 baht.

I hope this information is useful for anyone wanting to ship something overseas. My local post office is very friendly, but very limited in English, so I went in to the main post office in Rayong City and found some good English and some very helpful staff.

How possible when 2kg EMS to S costs 2000 Thb ? Something wrong for sure ! Can you confirm ? Thank you.

Not quite sure just where "S" might be, but that EMS World One Price Box is anywhere. Just have to choose that particular option, rather than regular air mail.

And I do believe one can do tracking on all mail sent, but not sure if it includes any insurance. Rather doubt that, although I do think one can register whatever one sends, for quite a low additional fee, which means less chance of any loss.

I have just learned that you need to be aware, not only of Thai Post restrictions, but those of your receiving postal service.

For example, the big shipment from Thai Post can be Carton #4, which is 100 cm X 55 cm X55 cm, maximum 30 kg.

But Canada Post's largest box accepted, is 100 cm X 50 cm X 50 cm, maximum 30 kg.

So, I've got the big Thai Post box, and will cut the corners down by five centimetres, and then get it to the post office, unsealed so I can check the weight and perhaps remove a few items.

But we need to be aware not only of the regulations shipping out of Thailand, but of those at the receiving end.

Okay, but does the method you finally chose include tracking and insurance?

My understanding is that ALL EMS options include tracking.

And that no method with any carrier includes insurance, as that depends on the value of the articles being shipped.
