March 7, 201412 yr I will soon be in the market for a new mb and cpu (memory also). I have read extensively about both processors and the new AMD A cpus that are coming out soon. The performance reports between a Haswell i5 quad core and an AMD FX 6 core are quite similar. The performance improvement with an FX 8 core is not that high either. As most software do not use 6 or 8 cores, should it matter if I buy an i5? i7 is out of my budget at the moment. Any suggestions and helpful comments appreciated! As an example, an FX 8 core costs about 6k...and an i5 6k...i7 about 8+++k.

March 7, 201412 yr The i5 is said to occupy the "sweet spot" for price and performance. I'm not a gamer or video editor and with the routine applications that I use, I can't tell the difference between the i7 and the i5.
