Difference between the AMD FX series and Intel Haswell

Featured Replies

I will soon be in the market for a new mb and cpu (memory also).

I have read extensively about both processors and the new AMD A cpus that are coming out soon.

The performance reports between a Haswell i5 quad core and an AMD FX 6 core are quite similar. The performance improvement with an FX 8 core is not that high either.

As most software do not use 6 or 8 cores, should it matter if I buy an i5? i7 is out of my budget at the moment.

Any suggestions and helpful comments appreciated!

As an example, an FX 8 core costs about 6k...and an i5 6k...i7 about 8+++k.

AMD FX-8320 @ 5580 baht

Intel i5-4440 @ 6390 baht

JIB prices.

The i5 is said to occupy the "sweet spot" for price and performance. I'm not a gamer or video editor and with the routine applications that I use, I can't tell the difference between the i7 and the i5.

I paid 5,486 baht http://www.advice.co.th/products/preview.php?code=A0058938. price for this one in shop

The AMD FX-8320 start @ 5,220 baht, in shop prices appear to be a bit lower than what the prices shows on there web pages..

AMD FX-6000 @ 3980 baht and FX-6350 @ 4480 baht [this one I would have got but all the FX-6 ones were sold out so went with 8320]

No idea about Intel, in all the PCs and laptops I have had over the years all have been AMD
