BANGKOK: -- The Civil Court Friday issued an injunction to suspend the order by the Interior Ministry to deport Indian businessman Satish Sehgal pending a ruling in the case.

The ministry has issued an order to deport Satish on allegations tht he had led violent protests.

Satish has appealed against the order with Civil Court and sought an injunction against the deportation order pending the review of his appeal.

The injunction is required for the court to hear his case. Deporting the guy without a chance to defend himself would hardly be "justice", would it?

Charupong - the former minister of the interior - endorsed the UDD platform on February 23 - which included going after the independent agencies and advocating secession. This same man - Charupong - signed a deportation order against someone who advocated no such things. The Civil Court is right to have put a hold to this outlandish display of Chalerm's CMPO, where this Thai citizen was deprived of his access to due process of the law - to which he is now justly entitled to. Thida and friends may have coined the phrase " judicial coup " but that is - and has always been - a rallying cry of the UDD to do away with the independent agencies completely. And that particularly rallying cry is - incidentally - profoundly unconstitutional and a threat to the rule of law.

Whilst I agree that a judicial coup was on the plans, I would argue that it has stalled, rather like the military coup.

Both the military and the judiciary have done their appreciations, and realise the implications of popular reaction to toppling an elected government. They (alone) know the likely result of the ongoing ballot. As I said, the whole plan has stalled. I should imagine there is a lot of brainstorming going on, to try to come up with a means of getting rid of Pheu Thai, and replacing them with a more acceptable regime (Abhisit?) without sparking a popular protest, which they could not control, and would lead to another Pheu Thai government being elected! Tricky one!

Oh come on, the guy has challenged a government decision and the court has ordered an injunction in order to hear his case (it being a little difficult to attend court if you are deported). Hardly controversial and definitely not a "judicial coup".

Okay, seeing as you seem to have a really hard time understanding this, I'll say it again, I'm not a Thai and I'm a guest in this country, I do not support the reds, and I do not support the yellows either, what I do support is the right to vote without obstruction, and I also support the right to protest, again as long as it's without obstructing another persons civil liberties, I do not believe that the acts of violence against the protestors is in any shape or form justified, and I also believe that the acts of the PDRC guards at times are nothing more then mindless thugs.

I neither believe that ALL Police are inept and failing to do their job, and at the same time I believe that senior Military officials need to be held accountable for some of their claims.

Both sides are as bad as each other, I wouldn't waste my time voting for either of them, which is just as well I can't vote, just like the vast majority of the TVF members, they can't vote, and all they're doing is offering their opinions, same as me, except I find it funny as I'm labelled a Thai Rouge, just because I think Suthep is a tosser, and disagree with a lot of what's going on now, I don't get caught up in the tribal thing, they're BOTH clown party's run by clowns..

I believe in basic rights in that you should be able to speak freely without being labelled a trouble maker, I believe in allowing to express yourself within the confines of the Law, and what I see here is both sides pay lip service and act above the Law almost with impunity.

you make a grand case, full of self-righteous hyperbole which, funnily enough, I find I'm in agreement with. But where your entire argument falls down is in the fact that there has to be a beginning to what you desire. At the moment there is no beginning. It is a political stasis. The beginning will only come when the political slate is wiped clean. That means a total clean out of this govt. For the moment, forget the Dems - they may ambush and snipe and throw up road blocks, but along the way their electoral influence seems unlikely to carry the day for them. Under an impartial administration, they will have to sit dormant (for strategic reasons). And as long as they and the Thaksinistas remain contained, there just might be a chance for political and bureaucratic reforms. Agree with you. Both parties are pretty bad. But what you call "yellow" supporters here on TVF are mostly people against Thaksin, and the current government. Not really supporters of the Dems. And for sure not supporters of Suthep. IMHO.
